I'm mainly referring to BE as a whole being in beta, I realize that this recent version is 'final' but that doesn't mean that BE entirely is final.

$able, this is something you might want to talk to MM about:

On the Soldat "choose profile" page, it would be useful to have it show what version of the BE engine is being used, as well as any other helpful information related to the versions of BE definitions/files that are installed.

I went around with the name "BattleEye" votekicking everyone a little while ago. Worked pretty well, heh.

I wouldn't complain about BE in these early stages. Sure, it's causing trouble now but we can't predict how it will be in the future.

If people don't complain then it will be the same in the future..

Yes, that is exactly what he is telling you. BE does not kick "For possible cheat", BE kicks for "Corrupt memory".

you're hurting Soldat so badly by doing this, because then it misinforms tons of people.  Thanks a lot.

well worth it for the hilarity. Besides, we need longterm newbies who can surf out the bugs.

Dont ever listen to some kiddy writing "BattlEye" wrong anyway. :P

Once again, when BattlEye itself kicks you, it will say so with two yellow messages (1st: "BattlEye Server: [player] : [violation]", 2nd: "[Player] has been kicked for BattlEye violation").

Sorry, but I will for sure not do anything like that. For obvious reasons I dont want people to know whats the state/progress of BE and its detections.
Its not like an anti-virus software.

:)

The fundamental difference lies here:
- Anti-Virus: The person using it on his PC wants it to work properly to protect himself. Call it a friend to him.
- Anti-Cheat: The person using it might want to prevent it from working properly to be able to use cheats etc. - for someone like that, BE is like an enemy (not a friend).

I can argue with you on everything you just said, but I won't.

I can understand not wanting to have version numbers, but would you consider having something that at least says "your BE is up to date" or "Your BE is not up to date, go <here> for more information"

You dont agree? Why?

BE will update when playing on a server and it will say if it fails (highly unlikely!). So it is absolutely not needed.
Besides, BE is not loaded on the profile screen (only when connected to a BE server).

anti-virus: the version number is just as accesisble to a virus that might reside on the computer and be trying to disable the AV software.

BE: the person at the computer, in most cases, wants to be able to ensure that they are able to play Soldat uninhibited, and if they can't play and are trying to troubleshoot, they should have an easy way of finding the problem.

As you've been saying, 1.4.2 should fix all of these auto-update problems so I agree that it isn't necesary.  If it turns out in the long-run that there are various things that can prevent BE from updating, I hope you'd reconsider putting such a thing in.

I know BE isn't loaded that early, but that doesn't mean that you can't work with MM to have him put in a tiny bit of code that tries to check what version of the files is there.

i might be able to explain your thoughts:

anti virus software boasts of what it protects you against, while anti cheat doesn't want you to know what it would take to get around it
