A massively multiplayer starcraft
mixed with secondlife for in-city dynamics
with war dynamics like Rome - Total war
With an option to control a single soldier in first/third person mode.

That would pwn.

Seriously. Imagine, real life nation dynamics, allies who you actually know, a living, growing game, nations that prosper or die depending on how a REAL person manages them, massive armies against one another if war happens.

Seriously. That is the best Idea I've ever had.

For StarCraft, don't attempt shooting it down unless you read the 94-page manual/backstory book.

If its online, I'll read it, but I'll probably only reach page 50 because it'll be so stupid.

Don't forget open-ended gameplay like in EVE and also advanced physics like in Crysis [and of course, zero-G combat].

Haha, you could just name the game and if I know it, I'll shoot it down.

They all suck.

It will have to wait till tomorrow. I'm going to bed soon.

Why should game stories automatically suck? It's still a medium just as stories and movies are. Sure there are games that are made for kids that don't have a really deep story, and games that just don't need stories like Soldat, but I don't see how you cannot like a story simply because it's shown via a game.

Games that have good plots and/or writing - in my opinion: Dues Ex, Hitman, Balders Gate II, Metal Gear Solid, Warhammer, Mafia, Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines, Dune and Thief.

I think you'll have to read the race Codex to really know Warhammer's story, and I think the Dune movie came out before the first game, but it still shows it's story well.

Balders Gate II and the Thief series are my favorites. :D

Deus Ex is stupid. Fucking bullshit political type novel, a dime a dozen.

Balders Gate II, you've got to be kidding me, only the RARE fantasy novel has merit. This one doesn't.

Hitman, fucking stupid. Genetic Clones of hitmen running around killing people. If it was just a fucking hitman I would think its a decent story. The clone part is shit, if I wanted bad clones, I'd watch dark angel.

Dune, convulted and boring.

Metal Gear Solid, much like why dune is stupid but even worse. The writer is horrible and I laughed all the way through the game.

Thief, blech. Nothing really bad to quote this game on, but nothing admirable either. Sub-par shit.

Never played warhammer, but that kind of sci-fi is basically fantasy.

Never played Vampire.

Lots of these games have great gameplay, but I never play a game for a story. If I wanted "intricate" bullshit, I have my own mind. I don't need a "writer" to go and make up some fantastical names, places, and history that basically stops me from playing the game. If I want a good story, I'll read a book. If I want gore, I'll watch a movie. If I want gameplay, I'll play a game. Unless they can come up to par with even decent books, I'll never recognize it as a good form of story telling.

Apart from Metal Gear Solid's excessively long cutscenes, how do they stop you playing the game? The main point of having a good story is to make you play the game more, like wanting to turn the page in a book. Good storylines/writing gives games more drama and sometimes comedy, genereally making them more fun to play.

Since we're talking about stories in games...

Homeworld made me a very very sad asian :(

Not many games have good stories, but Half-life's, Halo and Homeworld got me immersed into the universe.

Yes, thats the idea, but the story is just horrible. Incredibly stupid plot and shitty characters. Luckily the gameplay of it pwns and the pacing of the game is decent, but thats all.
