Meditation
« on: June 27, 2007, 08:09:01 pm »
As you've seen, I've been talking about meditation recently. I have been doing it for years however and do it lightly everyday, and use to delve into astral projection (when I believed in it, but I'm wiser now).

However, before I start on the topic, maybe you all can have some input if you have any to give. I'd be interested on your thoughts and views first.

I think it is a waste of time.

It's best to shut up about things when you know nothing about them.

Meditating is devoting time to concentration and thought, you cannot possibly try to do that with any success while doing much else.

Maybe you cannot, and meditation is not about concentration and thought. Its not sitting cross-legged in a monks robe listening to chants. Its not some hippy shit new age fuck shit bitch (well it is, but its not).

4yo, shut up. If you want to debate this go do some research so your ideas will not be based on pure ignorance. Better yet, ask our buddy Smegma here all about meditation, that way you are sure to get all the information you need.

Have you ever practiced it?

I've studied Buddhism all my life out of curiosity, as well as for a better way of looking at life. I only usually meditate after a stressful or exhausting day though.

Yes you can.

No its not.
That was more of a paradox then THIS!

It is known that there are an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Therefore, there must be a finite number of inhabited worlds. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near to nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the Universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the whole Universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely the products of a deranged imagination.

My mother is sort of buddist so she taught me alot about meditation.  I used to take time out of my day to meditate when i was younger but the alcohol has slowly drained my interest.  I still do sort of meditate but it isnt as structured as it should be.  A lot can be learned about oneself through meditation... most people think they know themselves already...others dont want to know.  But if your ever curious about yourself and who you really are i suggest you try it out.

I have been meditating for almost 2 minutes now, and I learned that I DO like eating pickles.
