I have been meditating for almost 2 minutes now, and I learned that I DO like eating pickles.

Ten year old 'eh?
Its called poking fun, not adolescence.

I don't meditate. The best I can do is lie on my back, whip out that beautiful kirby song and close my eyes and listen until I get vertigo and have an out-of-body experience. So far, it's done about five times.

After that, I feel refreshed and ready to roll.

i was that kid who always fell asleep and snored in school meditation and made all the other kids laugh and not concentrate

Your school had a meditation/break session?

yeah once a week this meditation coach or something would bring rubber mats and relaxing music then run us through it

From what I understand, meditation is a worthwhile distraction.  It restructures your brain physically and functionally, helps you enjoy life, etc...

But I still can't get over the idea that it's fairly useless unless you've spent years doing it (if you're already content and all those other benefits...).

I am, however, interested in the discoveries people have made while meditating as well as their correlations to drug use and cognition deficits.

Eww, yeuch. I hardly ever use music, and its all personal preference. What could be stimulating to one person could be calming to another, or worse, boring. It sounds stupid to me.

Examples if you will. I was just curious to what extent. Do you mean discoveries as in a "eureka" effect or something to the extent of a drug induced trip. I believe you meant the latter, but I could be wrong.

I've tried astral projection. I lay on my back and start focusing on something. I notice the curtains are sort of waving. Then the image starts to ripple. Items start to melt into the wall. Tunnel appears, everything turns black, then quickly changes into silver. Pure white light. Woah! At this point I have to move my eyes. It all goes away in a second.

I can spend hours doing this. Has anyone gone beyond this point?

Thats more of what druggies like to call "zoning out" than it is meditation...I guess you can call it meditation but i wouldnt.

Much, I've gone through the actual act and have entered a deep trance atleast 5-6 times. but if you just focus on something your spending way too much energy into it. I would recommend closing your eyes when you do it.

If your chest gets heavy, your body tingles and vibrates, and you hear a buzzing all around you, you are close. Don't lose track and just relax into a deeper state.

I once again, submit my opinion. Astral Project, or the notion of leaving your body into the physical world is bull****. I use to believe it, but its nothing more than a trance. It's immediate effects are very interesting, but I wouldn't say its leaving your body. It isn't really something amazing and special ability as everyone hopes it to be. I enjoy it a lot, but I accept the fact that its just me. The latter effects are much more subtle, but I enjoy them more. Deep trances are nice from time to time, but don't get your hopes up for something immediately life altering and amazing realization. Almost everything is subtle here.

Funny, the feelings you described are the same when going to a lucid dream. Every time I WILD, my body feels like a block of iron and there's a magnet lifting me up. I lose all sense of gravity. Then colors start to appear, and I'm in a dream.

I go in my room and meditate. I'm always calm, I don't understand way though. Everyone in my class always argues with my teacher.. I never argue, if she told me to lay my head down, I will do it. Everyone else would say "Awww!, Come on!" or "Why? Do we have to?".

I'm so calm that the only thing that would make me angry is something.. I just can't put my finger on it though..
Remember, its all fun and games 'till someone gets hurt.. then its hilarious.

I often try to hold a trance if I can during this.

Dude, you're just like me. I always put my head down on my desk when the teacher says so, and I'm the quietest in the class. There's not a lot of stuff that makes me angry, even when a friend acidentally spills milkshake on my lap.

At least I know what makes me angry the most and the quickest--my mom. Can't explain why though.

Discoveries as in insights about how the mind works: the psychological aspect of meditation/drug use/etc.

After a certain odd experience of my own, I spoke to some of the guys about this a few weeks ago.  MM talked about how people in the East discovered many aspects of the mind that were only later discovered in the West through psychological tests and drug use.  Because of that experience and what Michal said, I've been trying to find out as much as I can about the subject.

This is one of the driving forces behind why I meditate. Have you ever tried it before?
