[anchor] tag
« on: July 05, 2006, 10:00:33 am »
I've added in the [anchor] tag that some of you were looking for.  This allows you to create custom defined anchors in your post (mainly useful for long posts introducing new maps and fan apps, where you may want to have a table of contents at the beginning, with links to other parts of the thread.

The usage is as follows:
Code: [Select]
[anchor]AnchorName[/anchor]

This defines an anchor.

To use it:
Code: [Select]
[iurl=http://whatever the url is to your thread/?topic=etc#AnchorName]This is a link to your anchor[/iurl]

An example:
This link will take you down the page

[anchor]theanchor[/anchor]
And here is the anchor, defined with [anchor]

Oooh, table of contents, here I come!

It's probably worth noting that the anchors cannot have any spaces in them at all.  For example:
Code: [Select]
[anchor]This is an anchor[/anchor]
and
[iurl=http://...#This is an anchor]Text[/iurl]
These will not work while
Code: [Select]
[anchor]Thisisananchor[/anchor]this will work.

I like it, but have a suggestion:

lets say we have an anchor named info.

if I want to link to it it would be easier if it was just:
Code: [Select]
[url=#info]Info[/url] instead of:
Code: [Select]
[url=url_to_thread#info]Info[/url]
what do you think?
There are other worlds than these

No, this way we can link to anchors in other threads.  It's also closer to what you'd actually code in html.

On another note, Flies, why do you have the 'i' in the beginning of your url code?  You know you don't actually need it, right?

the iurl makes it open in the same window... you don't want to use the url tag and have it open in a new window, do you?

I don't ever have that problem, but I can sympathize with those unfortunate people who do.

I can assure you that they do not.  You probably have yours configured to always open links in the same tab

One opens a new window (or tab or same window, depending on your configuration), the other opens the URL in the same window.

Firefox 1.5 here, does the same thing in an alpha version of Firefox 3.0

Flab you are not wrong :P, one reloads the page while the other one does not.

They both reload the page the first time you click on them.  From then on it just goes right to the anchor.
