This is a mode of play in Nightfire. It's not a very popular mode, but i have a feeling it might be a nice alternative in Soldat.

Picture a large map with the Alpha and Bravo flags at opposite ends. Instead of capturing each other's flags, you try to capture the yellow flag in a random part of this massive map, then bring it back without getting killed. It would require a few people and good scouting skills to excell in this mode.

Most of the CtF maps could probebly be used (the larger ones, anyway), but a few new Epg maps should be made.

Well, i think that there should be few fixed weapon spawns, set in mapmaker. But besides that, great idea!

Wait, random spot. This is much too random if this is true, and if it is a fixed area, there would have to be tons of areas for it to not be rigged very quickly. If implemented right, F12.

So, the flag would spawn randomely after each score? Kinda unfair if it spawns right outside one teams base.

I dunno, there might just be some to this idea. I'll keep an open eye on the thread, this could be interresting..

so it's red vs blue and each team has to get a common flag somewhere in the map to their base?  sounds good to me...  Kinda like that James Bond for N64 game mode...

Oh wow. Thanks for the support. Epg mode seems to be a hit!

Just want to say (which seems to be the real 'iffy' point) that the flag would not spawn close to anyones base. The map would have to be wither a large flat land with a few platforms and more in the center for spawn points or a network of tunnels. If you picture Inf_Messenger as Epg_Messenger, then the flag would be in between the two mountains or somewhere in the center mountain (i dont recall how many mountains there are).

Also, remember that the flag spawns randomly. It's not like the flag returns instantly to base. If you stop the reds inches from their flag and you grab the flag, you must now run like a bat outta hell!

Just add some yellow flag spawn places and you can play ctf or ...epg on it!

Thats what he is saying. It could be like that, That is better than what he is thinking, which is a "spawn zone" in the center of the map. He is thinking that the spawn would be random, but instead, how about just a bunch of spawns where the flag is randomly (on one of the spawns) placed.

Wow this is the best idea ive heard in a while.  I really hope someone scripts this... It would take alot of new maps because I would imagine that the maps would have to be quite big and there really arent alot of really big maps... maybe im wrong about the maps having to be big... i dont know.  Either way it's a really killler idea... nice protoman

I say F12 but ONLY if it's done right. The "random" word has me worried because it can usually be translated to "unfair" in such types of games.

Sounds good, but, I think you should have to bring the flag to the enemies base, otherswise if one team is killed in the battle for the flag then the other team will easily make it home. Like in a 1v1 CTF, if you die the other person is probably halfway across the map by the time you respawn.

But otherwise, it's a very simple and fun-sounding idea.

Soldat doesn't have the depth needed to do this. A team could just sit outside the enemy base when it gets superiority and have one guy run around picking up the flag unchallenged. In a 3D shooter, you have the Z axis to move on as well, creating a wider spread to move on.

to make it more fair and eliminate the flag spawining right enxt to the other u could have the red team spawn at the blue falg and vice verse..the only problem i could see with this is a little bit of spawn killing when the falgger is trying to cap
