Lobby Chat
« on: July 05, 2007, 06:00:11 pm »
Self-explanatory. I was thinking this because while looking for a server, it gets pretty boring because I want to talk to players not in servers, but it is impossible. It would be great in 1.5.0 there would be such thing.

EX:

Lobby Server
--
Pick a location to chat (USA, Europe, Australia, etc.)
--
Talk with players in that location! (It is like the Lobby Chat in StarCraft series if you played it)

Advantages:
It will be easier to use that mIRC because you can talk to a person in the same window (Soldat Game) and when they accept, you can start the match really easily.

With spam control, obviously. Too many posts in a minute (like over 10 in a minute) would equal in a IP ban, like flooding in a server.

Hmm.. are we talking live chat here, or a forum similar post and wait thing?

Well, I think the idea holds some potential, but I do not agree with how you intend to carrie it out. I've got to say i too think it'll get spammed up, even with the precautions you're speaking of. I definitely think it would be awesome if people could somehow communicate within soldat without actually joining a server, and I also think it would be very good for the newcomers, those who aren't yet straight with mIRC and such.
I support it to some extend..

I really don't know, I'm leaning on live chat. I really don't know! That's a thinker.

EDIT: Whatever is most relieble, easiest to moderate.

Well, you could make it connect to the Soldat IRC channel, couldn't you?

Nah, not if I was to decide. The whole point is to connect those that are actually about to play soldat, right? I mean, half the peops in the IRC channels don't even play anymore at all!

Yeah, I agree. mIRC players are dead after all.

Actually, this could be a great idea!

Im a bit of a starcraft player, so i know what your talking about. Having a soldat 'battle.net' would be interesting because you can chat and look for your servers in the same general area.

I support, F12

Alright, then, maybe it joins a separate channel designed just for the use of the Soldat Lobby?

I'm sure it wouldn't have as much options as IRC clients have, so I'm pressing F11.

Would it need to?

I'm just suggesting IRC so that no one needs to write a whole server script or something for the chat, but just to implement something simple into Soldat.

It's just to chat before you start a match. A textbox and a send button are the ONLY options needed. Why would it need 11 million options when you're just playing a game? It wouldn't make any sense at all. F12

Which is why I was talking about using IRC as the server side of things. It wouldn't be hard at all to make Soldat connect to an IRC channel, now, would it?

Yeah, anyways why make it complicated. Think about the newbies here man! Would they seriously need to know how to use mIRC?! Why go around using it? It is simpler and easier using Lobby Chat. It can have a little bit more options, but not too much.
