Your Soldat screenshot in a magazine!
« on: July 10, 2007, 04:19:02 am »
So, I am currently writing a review on Soldat for a computer magazine and I need some (1-4) cool screenshots for illustrations. They have to look OMFG-I-TOTALLY-WANNA-TRY-THIS-GAME!111 because i find it really hard to explain the rapid gameplay of Soldat in words. The more gore, the better!

Oh and no modded weapons, please, the guns should look normal.

Also, if you think you have any advice on the review itself, i urge you to feel free and speak up. Pros and cons lists, summaries and whatnot are all very welcome!

you should first have a screenshot of the weapons menu, then say how soldat iis really a moddable game and show a modded weapons menu. Maybe try some of VTT's maps for screenshots...

But you don't want to see the 'community screenshots' page, as a good comic has been left out and isn't shown there. ¬¬ *is still a very bitter man*

I've done a few featues in a newspaper, so feel free to PM me if you're stuck with anything. (although I didn't write about games in that paper).

I have to agree with EnEsCe, the screenshots on the Soldat homepage are some of the best IMO

be sure to mention that although its 2D it does not take away from the game experience at all. Its also a great multiplayer thats free and doesnt rquire major downloads. its a good community and u can make friends quickly.

remind them that there is a large community for modifying the weapons and making new maps and videos and all kinds of neat stuff.

Look at the bullet going through that guy, you should probably zoom in on that and the ricochet.

Which magazine? Do you think you could post your review here when it's finished.

jrgp's and a4yo's screenshots just suck for this.
There aren't enough player there to capture the intense gameplay
Not enough gore

Remember, what you think is a "cool shot" may be true for the soldat community - but for those that have never tried soldat that means NOTHING.
Plus, why would they want a screen shot with a scoreboard on?
I would recommend a deathmatch screenshot, a ctf one with someone holding the flag (and teammates actively defending (meaning firing at many enemies)), a screenshot with a whole lot of bullets and projectiles flying throughout with some people in the middle getting ripped, and a screenshot of a little bit of stealth (someone camping in the bushes) while much gore is going on around....  Open maps are good to captivate gore!  The inf_warehouse screen shot does just that*
Can't think of anything original to put here...

I like EnEsCe's screenshot but it looks too pixelish' I don't know...

And yeah, I think more action would be better than just a good shot you took...

Heh, I remember that Mancer... we got Michal to play pointmatch, and loads of other players taking turns to join the server.

By the way, what magazine is this for? I'm sure we'd all like to see it printed.

MM; seriously Chakra, stop the fisting

the pixelish looks just comes from it being blown up because whoever took it was playing at a higher resolution. It can easily be scaled back down to "normal" size

For signatures, you are allowed only one image in your signature which may not be wider and taller than 300 and 125 pixels, and may not be over 20kB in file size. No BMPs are allowed.

Best are screen shots where there is climate of movies like Brothers in Arms, Saving Private Ryan, where is Snow, bunkers and parachuters. It looks really cool and i think it's making a good prezentation of Soldat.

None of orginal map have this climat. Enesce scrshot has that thing! You can find "it" also on ss at http://www.soldat.pl/screens.html as SDFilm said. Those are really great, becouse MM was choosing accurately.

mancer, your LastSecondCap won't impress anyone who hasn't played soldat - they wouldn't really understand, nor does it capture soldat's MAD chaos.  and ur MM killing shot also doesn't convey soldat's intense battle.
long rage, 2 and 4 have modded explosions, 1 is only some ppl camping/spraying, and 3 is only a bunch of zombie-bots (which is not very soldat)
Sry if i sound so pessimistic, but I think that for a magazine we should use a RLY good soldat screen shot.
Can't think of anything original to put here...
