Insta-Port Changes
« on: July 14, 2007, 10:46:05 pm »
I have a problem with this odd almost instant port changing. I go, host a non-dedicated game in Soldat, and then I open another Soldat client to view my game on the servers list. The ports Soldat assigns my computer (which should be the ones I specify) are always something like 3234, instead of the 23173 that I intend. This is getting kinda odd and I'm not getting anywhere with my trouble-shooting.

This is my only problem with hosting, then alls good, so if anyone could help me with this question, they've done a lot ;).

Edit:

Here, I've done my research and I found a case very similar to mine. The person has the same router as mine as well. I'm dealing with a Qwest GT701-WG.

Still, any help? There was never really anything definite said in that thread anyway. The port used to stay at what I had it configured as, but not recently.

It's an issue with the router itself; I don't have any experience dealing with that particular router, so you'll need to read the manual to be able to address this.

For all you people that have the same problem as me, listen up!

I have found out what my problem is. The ports only change up on me when I quickly shut down the server and put it back up again. What I do to deal with this issue, I wait about 5 minutes before I put the server back up so that I won't have some random port instead of the ports already forwarded. What happens is, right when you shut down your server, the server is still displayed momentarely on the lobby, so when you immediately start it back up, it reads that the same exact server is trying to start up twice, so it hands you a new port to compensate for the two exact servers being up at the same time.

At least, that's as good as I can say it. That isn't exactly what happens, but it's what I've observed.

If I understand what you're saying then I believe you're wrong.  I have been shutting down and restarting my server many times now since I'm testing my game mode.  It always gets the same port (namely the one I assigned it in its soldat.ini file).  Perhaps the problem is something else.
Can't think of anything original to put here...

I'm speaking for people who have the Qwest GT701-WG or similar routers that cause the same problems. If yours doesn't do this stuff, then this doesn't apply to you :P.
