A song...
« on: July 16, 2007, 04:36:30 am »
The following is a song i found.  Its called "Amused to Death" and it is by Roger Waters... the song itself sucks balls but I, personally LOVE the lyrics... they make me laugh.  I wanna hear some of your comments on the lyrics.

Doctor Doctor what is wrong with me
This supermarket life is getting long
What is the heart life of a colour TV
What is the shelf life of a teenage queen
Ooh western woman
Ooh western girl
News hound sniffs the air
When Jessica Hahn goes down
He latches on to that symbol
Of detachment
Attracted by the peeling away of feeling
The celebrity of the abused shell the belle
Ooh western woman
Ooh western girl
And the children of Melrose
Strut their stuff
Is absolute zero cold enough
And out in the valley warm and clean
The little ones sit by their TV screens
No thoughts to think
No tears to cry
All sucked dry
Down to the very last breath
Bartender what is wrong with me
Why I am so out of breath
The captain said excuse me ma'am
This species has amused itself to death
Amused itself to death
Amused itself to death
We watched the tragedy unfold
We did as we were told
We bought and sold
It was the greatest show on earth
But then it was over
We oohed and aahed
We drove our racing cars
We ate our last few jars of caviar
And somewhere out there in the stars
A keen-eyed look-out
Spied a flickering light
Our last hurrah
And when they found our shadows
Groups 'round the TV sets
They ran down every lead
They repeated every test
They checked out all the data in their lists
And then the alien anthropologists
Admitted they were still perplexed
But on eliminating every other reason
For our sad demise
They logged the only explanation left
This species has amused itself to death
No tears to cry
No feelings left
This species has amused itself to death
Amused itself to death
And if the dam breaks open many years too soon
And if there is no room upon the hill
And if your head explodes with dark forebodings too
Ill see you on the dark side of the moon

It starts out very nonsensical, but as you progress through the lyrics, you can't help but feel that it's sort of deep, in some way or another.  I just haven't tacked down that way yet.

Only anime shows I've felt any interest in over the years are Pokemon (original TV series) and various hentai.
so clearly jgrp is a goddamn anime connoisseur. his opinion might as well be law here.

Yeh, I think Waters kind of lost it after he left Pink Floyd. Still, its quite obviously going to be nonsensical any which way you look at it. He was in Pink Floyd, and Pink Floyd was THE band for tripping out on.

Yuck, paranoid android = only decent song. That's because its catchy, so thats its only merit.

The song reminds me of Swans/Angels of Light...but Mike Gira is better.

Waters didnt lose it after pink floyd.... listen to The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking... its a really killer story and clapton is amazing on the guitar.
And pink floyd still is the best band to trip to.

I just think these lyrics are funny.
And if the dam breaks open many years too soon
And if there is no room upon the hill
And if your head explodes with dark forebodings too
