Ok, it seems like some people need it, so here's a:

MINI SKETCH TOOL TUTORIAL

To start, the sketch tool was added in th elater versions of Polyworks, and is used to sketch ideas for maps as well as make notes to yourself while mapping. The downfall of the sketch tool, is that prolonged use causes polyworks to crash. Prolonged human exposure to the sketch tool hasn't been tested, and may be dangerous to your health.

It appears that the sketch tool draws using vectors, or think straight lines smaller than a pixel. (I could be very wrong here) There conect to eachother to form psuedo curves, much like ones does with polygons.

There are three basic functions of the sketch tool: Draw, Move, and Erase.

Draw
The sketch tool's basic function, this tool is used by selecting the sketch too and clicking the mouse on your map. Used to sketch out your notes/layout. Your best option is to, instead of drawing one continuous like, is to draw a series of small rough lines that are more easily identifiable when zoomed out. This helps prevent crashing.

Move
Ctrl+Click. Moves the vertices of the vectors.

Delete
Alt+Click. Deletes the vectors.

dx8vb.dll probably stands for a directX driver, try reinstalling your current directX or updating to a more up to date one.

I'm just speculating here, but hell, it ain't gonna blow your PC up so try it. Try it like there's no tomorrow

It runs on Vista, all you have to do is download dx8vb.dll and register it via command prompt.

The main problem with polyworks on Vista though is that the scenery graphics won't appear at all, just blank rectangles.

Anna ain't working anymore :( sorry.

I've discontinued development of PW and released the source code, check the first post for the download link. Be warned: it's pretty badly coded, disorganized, very few comments, etc. Feel free to do whatever you want with it.

Also I'm no longer providing support for PolyWorks, so I won't be responding to posts or PMs or emails asking for help, and I'm not available on IRC.

Found a small bug:
When having placed the 1st or 2nd vertice of a polygon (so another vertice is still "floating" at your cursor) while having selected another polygon, if you press the Delete button on your keyboard, Polyworks violently crashs with a bunch of error messages. This made me loose about an hour of work on a map ;)

09. I get this error when I try to run PolyWorks: System Error &H8007007E (-2147024770). The specified module could not be found. (Or any 'missing file' type errors.)

Make sure these files exist in your WindowsSystem32 folder: MBMouse.ocx, COMDLG32.OCX, mscomctl.ocx, msvbvm60.dll, dx8vb.dll, scrrun.dll. The first three are included in the PolyWorks zip, the others can be found with google. If putting them in the WindowsSystem32 folder doesn't work try resistering the missing files: start -> run, type in regsvr32 name_of_file.dll_or_ocx.

so i need to goodle thes files dlowload them and stike them ins system 32 folder just so i can run poly works?

I have a little problem with PW.
I got it running on Vista, but NOTHING works on it. As soon as I try to do anything, it says either that some file is missing or that it couldn't start up because of something and blahblahblah.

Here's some pics of what shows up:

When I just click on the black window, which is the main window, or the map window, of PW: http://i36.tinypic.com/erzud4.jpg

The first window that comes up after I try closing PW: http://i33.tinypic.com/xcu26r.jpg
The second one: http://i37.tinypic.com/4kadeq.jpg

When I try opening a compiled map: http://i33.tinypic.com/vo3o1w.jpg

So, if anyone knows what to do, please help :D

I wonder how hard it would be to update the code to VB.net. I think then, it would work well on Vista, though I know nothing of the bloated OSX ripoff version of Windows. I love VB6 (started learning VB6 and VB.net 3 weeks ago), but it seems almost near impossible to get gifs as scenery working. I only got em to show up in the scenery window. Lol. I think that too may be a lot easier in VB.net, though I could be mistaken. Just in VB.net there seems to better support for textures and images. From what I know of in 3 weeks anyway. :P

There is going to be an update to Polyworks.

Also, I updated the FAQ section of the original post with the instructions for Vista users.
