Hopefully they can help people who aren't aware of what I'm talking about.

The four major solutions offered are thus (and excuse my lack of information, this is something I know very little about): that Joseph was the son of a Levirite marriage, but this situation is often too complex to be considered plausible.  That the genealogy Luke gives is really Mary's, but this is often discounted by religious scholars as unlikely (there are several other reasons I don't remember).  That Matthew's genealogy is one tracing the kingship down from King David while Luke's is the true genealogy, but this explanation leaves too much information out.  And finally, that the genealogies were simply invented to artificially fulfill Jewish prophecy.

What do you mean by "artificially" fullfill Jewish prophecy?

Can you elaborate on that

Matthew and Luke probably didn't know the true genealogy of Jesus, but by falsifying his heritage and claiming that Jesus descended from King David, they could garner support for Christianity from the Jews.

If you read the first link it says:

Also 2 Timothy 3:16 states, All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, (NKJV)

Good catch.  Then they almost certainly knew Jesus' true genealogy.  Either one or the both of them lied or one of the other explanations is true.

Edit: Yep.  I just quickly scanned through some literature: I stated the solution correctly but added an incorrect interpretation.  Matthew and Luke definitely knew the correct genealogy, but one or both of them (if this is the right solution) must have fabricated it.
