I see exactly where you're coming from, Will.

I do see only a slight difference between Satanists and well, just about everyone else. I suppose that can only be observed when someone is put into a situation where they can choose between helping themselves and helping someone else.

If, for example, I was asked by my little sister to drive her somewhere after an exhausting day, I would choose to drive her wherever it is she needs to be. However, a Satanist may choose to be all "screw you" and go rest. At least, those are the differences that I've observed.

satanism is complicated and misunderstood so heres the overview:

first clear your mind of everything you know about satanism

now replace it with this:

satanists believe that they come first and you and your family come before every1 else

Technically, 'Satanism' would be more like killing everyone and causing misery in any way possible. Tacking the name onto a belief to make it sound badass is kinda pathetic.

I mean, Satan's commonly known as the evil guy who wants to end all human life, right? I don't see where looking out for siblings/children/parents comes into that, unless it's to sacrifice. (which doesn't look like your goal.)

maybe for one religion but think about it. god and satan are oposites. The bible teaches mainly that you should help others and satanism is the opposite of that. so how does it not make sence?

That's only looking at one aspect of it. Satanism isn't just the one sided opposite of God on that one point. You could say, by that logic, that because the Bible says homosexuality is a sin, Satanism must be a religion based on heterosexuality. But it's nothing like that.

The bible teaches
...that Satan is trying his hardest to destroy all humanity. I suppose Satanism is helping that goal to a degree, if only in the sense that it's completely based on a childish selfisness.

Just calling it 'Satanism' says volumes for the nièvete of whoever came up the the whole idea.

Actually, the opinion that Satan is evil is taught by only some religions. Satanism, as far as I know, has a whole different opinion on Satan.

True. I couldn't help but notice he said "The Bible says' in his last post, though.

Umm, I haven't read the bible in a while, or ever (in it's entirety) but I've always been led to believe that Lucifer/Satan/etc, wanted to destroy God, not man. Now if you beilive that God is what keeps mankind alive, then you'd be right, but that simply can't be assumed.

In fact, the Morning Star simply wishes man to indulge in worldly pleasures that God has deemed sinful. And it may be assumed that his wises are what he believes best for mankind. But that sways from my point which is that you are simply wrong.

Edit:
Also, if you actually look into satanism, and not just the biblical orgins of the adversary, the worship is not focused on any deity, and Anton LaVey stated the he doesn't believe in a devil. The name is derived from the literal hebrew origin of Satan which simply means "Adversary".

Ugh. I'm not Satanist, but the religion has always been misunderstood and clouded by misleading propaganda.

Satanism, as tool said, is about taking care of yourself before focusing on others. As selfish as it may seem, you come first, others come second. However, you have to admit that most people do that anyway. Satanism acknowledges that lifestyle and builds on it. In all fairness, it's sort of logical. If you're not being taken care of, how are you supposed to take care of others?

It's not like Satanists cut themselves, burn things into their flesh, want bad things to happen to people, and draw pentagrams all over the place.  Most, if not all, of that is propaganda.

I've heard that before, but why is Satan's name slapped on it?

to me satanism is just about thinking your all cool becauze you refuse to believe in a god that everybody else believes in, you just need something to respect, and so you go to worship 'satan' or 'the devil' becauze you think you are like him, different.
and liusten to all the bands spreading the word of satan, and all thoso people are just fake, doing it for the attention
it just all crap to me.

you guys dont get it i know this kid in real life he doesnt dress in black, make sacrifices, or cut himself. thats for those crybaby emo kids who think their life as an upper middle class suburban kid sucks. Stanism is about yourself and your family where as christianity is about others. myabe christianity says the devil is bad but the bible is basicaly teaching you to help others. satanism teaches you to help your family and yourself.
