Ctf_StationOfDoom
« on: July 07, 2006, 08:39:21 am »
This is my first map in ages (apart from the tiny forums submission) and I think it turned out pretty good. The only problem is scenery. I can't find any good sci-fi scenery.

Okay, here goes: a few pitiful guys have been abducted by aliens and dumped in an old space station, to fight each other 'till the end in a ctf match  (stupid... but whatever ;D ). All will be viewed by the aliens on their version of Nickelodeon.

Overview:

Red Base (What will that red beam do...? :P )

I wouldn't touch those Electrified Pillars if I were you... :

Same goes for this garbage-removal-shaft...:

Regenerating yellow platform, Arena boundries (dangerous purple energy beams) aaand... More nice pillars... *sizzle*:

Peek at the Blue base:

If it asks for missing scenery files, Ignore It!  :P

Comments, would be appreciated  :)

Can you discover the secret?...

Hmm. Looks pretty cool. I think I'll give it a shot later.

You can save yourself some time and energy by not bothering to give maps stories, by the way. I seriously doubt anybody cares. :P

I know... But I'd love this one to be played at Leo's servers :P That's why I was trying to give it this 'neutral' (non-sci-fi) background :P

Yeah, stories are needless for the most parts.  Instead, I give my maps descriptions.  Like this (using this map for example):

"Millions of miles from Earth stands a Martian arena that has been used for over a century.  Its matches were recorded and aired on televisions from across the galaxy."

And for the map.

This (and Rustgiant) is what I want my UT maps to look like.  Really smooth layout, great style, clever barrier, all that jazz.

My only suggestion for this map is to, instead of adding snowing effects, and with your remaning 351 scenery slots, add stars around the map so that it'll actually look like it's taking place in space (although it may bring some more harm to the eyes since the lights are already there...make them as dim as possible).

The only problem is that the map description can't contain a lot of characters :P

Heh, you can use this one if you want, but what do you mean with lack of stars? I've made a star background (Photoshop owns your soul :P)(it doesn't lag, AFAIK), It's not even snow :P

Bah, then the overview and in-game ss's are screwing with me...

I'll download it when I get home and see for meself ;D

EDIT: I don't mean that map description, I meant a short description of your map in your post.

Ah heck, your 'description' looked dangerously close to a story :P

Oh, I'm such an idiot... I forgot to include the texture  ;D

Anyhow, look at the attachments of the first post for the steel texture (credits go to the unknown random person that has made them (along with the scenery).

@TrmD: Heh, I already pointed out that I couldn't find any good sci-fi scenery and making them in photoshop is a pain in the derrière  >:(

And stop spamming the inf/ctf forum, TrmD  ;)

I like the map.
-Very unique
-The texture you used fits the map perfectly.
-Those gradient light beam bars whatever look cool.

-If you want scifi scenery you can google star treck sprites and use them as scenery.
There are other worlds than these

I found them in my scenery folder after playing online for 15 months (or whatever) :P

But... I don't think that is what he means  ;D

Download the map and enter the beam  ;D

Thanks for the comments, people  ;)

lol, its not as original as said before. there've been some other space station maps too, but this definately beats the rest of em. excellent work! just try to add some waypoints and this'll be a party indeed!
lol siggeh deleted for the 7th time! that's like a new record or something, ain't it?

I love it, UT style on soldat maps hasn't been seen a lot and it works out very nicely, keep ut the good work, and keep pumping those sci-fi maps people. as for you Eagles, I haven't had time to make any  maps yet, but I've been opening up a lot of custom UT maps just to get inspiration, just like a photographer looking at old photo's. I do not know if you have UT (my guess is yes), but try downloading some nice customs and open them up in unrealed.
