a more realistic sniperrifle zoom
« on: July 25, 2007, 03:23:33 pm »
how about make sniperrifle zoom more realisticly, like: more(x2) range, and if you look farther, the screen actually zoom in on the cursor( you can see less things), like in counter-strike 2d.

Shikabane Hime... Undead girls... Dual-wielding Mac 11s... Epic bayonets... WIN!

The barrett doesn't need more range, since you can shoot someone 3 screens away, but zooming in on the cursor so you can't see as much the farther you zoom is a pretty good idea.

Still, the barrett is fine the way it is, and it's not really neccesary, so f11.

well you could shoot someone 2 screens away but I disagree on this idea.
2 things:
- zooming into the screen is extremely hard coding and not worth it.
- 2 screen width scope is WAY too much.  1.5 is good since you do get an ahead advantage, but not so much to make it too unfair - You fire, you miss, so you run away without any trouble whatsoever... not good.
Can't think of anything original to put here...

It's actually quite hard to shoot when you're scoped more than 1.5x screen. You can try to see how hard it would be by changing bullettype to arrow, change cooldown to 35 or less, and then shoot scoped.

2 screens wouldn't be too much if your field of view is 3 times smaller than normal.

Wait wouldn't this make it unfair. Because now you can zoom x2 and when you shoot you can follow your bullet. I think it would be too much of an advantage.

Indeed, and it wouldn't be advantage because it makes killing someone easier (it doesn't) - for example, when I'm in ctf_Run, I sometimes use the follow-bullet advantage to see if there are any enemies approaching from distance.
But it would be quite fun if a round-shaped scope would appear when one tries to zoom into the distance... and similarly to realistic mode, he couldn't any players from outside the scope.

Well if you cancel that. What happens if you get a lucky long range kill? If you're looking to add it to the movie, it wont show in the demo. Just you shooting and killing someone...and that's not interesting. :(

How about when you zoom in, you get a circle of black around the screen. Not so it's blocking out heaps, just a little bit.

Yeah, I thought of that too. A block-thing with a circle-shaped hole in it, and it's opacity increases the farther you zoom.

@Kryp -- go buy some skills. use /command to bring up the commands.

That's the best idea so far. When zooming 1/2 a screen, the opacity is around 50%, 1 screen, 75%, and the farthest possible zoom. 100%.

And then after you fire, you follow the bullet, and the black screen disappears.
