You can apparently not see the "Try running Soldat in compatibility mode" text directly in that error message. Sometimes, yes, Soldat errors can be quite awkward and unforgiving.

I'd rather you didn't accuse me of insinuating that you were "stupid", seeing as that is inaccurate.

You can always try rebooting. Or, uninstalling soldat, deleting the soldat folder, then installing over again.
There are other worlds than these

When that happened to me I changed from 32 to 16 bit. I don't know, it might help you.

This happens sometimes when another program uses Direct X and then does something stupid with it. Usually just a reboot works.

Yes sometimes the messages can be a little confusing.

Try the thing Cappy said. Change to either 16-, 32-bit and change to the same setting in the monitor settings. That did the trick on my old computer.

OBEY!!!

Are you using windowed mode? I had the same error when I was using windowed mode.  Use full screen and see if it works.

Yup, in order for it to work I had to change my monitors resolution, then also the resolution for soldat.

Whoa, hold on. I don't think that reinstalling Windows is a good idea. Try reinstalling Soldat and the DirectX drivers, at the same time. Reinstall DirectX, then reinstall Soldat.

If that doesn't work, there's always Vista.

I had Windows XP Professional, and it worked fine. I updated to Vista, still worked, but i didnt like Vista, so i returned to XP, and then it stopped working. I have installed all the Drivers for my PC and that. I have DirectX 9.0c, and its still not working. I so badly want to play Soldat again. :'(

God, this is annoying.
Someone please help... haha.

Have you tried updating your video card drivers? That usually works in these DirectX problems... otherwise, it could just be your graphics card or whatever integrated media accelerator thingy or etc. you have.
