Hot Gates (300 Map) Someone Please Finish This
« Reply #62 on: August 12, 2007, 10:25:32 am »
Here is a map that I've started a while back and realized that I don't have anymore time and inspiration to finish it.  I'll post some screenshots and maybe ideas on how this map is supposed to be.

Hot Gates looks like a really nice map, actually... something like Storm (an old, flat DM map that was somewhat recently taken out ;_;) or a trench-war.

It might be one of the few of my best works. :-\  Here is what it was supposed to be.

The far left ledge is a cliff and I was going to add a sea and wrecked ships.  In the movie you see a hundred Persian Warships be thrashed by lighting and 300 Spartans were standing on the cliff watching it.

The flat area by the little hill on the left is Xerxes' camp.  I was going to add some ship backgrounds, a lot of crates, tents, etc.

The central part of the map is the battle-ground.  I wasn't really going to do anything with it.

The area next on the left side of a wall is the Spartans camp site.  I was going to add some mountains and you can stand on it to imitate the scene where the Arcandians are leaving and the Spartans stand there watching them and Leonidas says "Tonight, we dine in hell!".

The wall is the stone wall the Spartans built to prevent Persians from flanking them.

The right side is just land and I'll minorally add scenery to it.

Just to give anyone who is going to finish it an idea of what it would be like.

Who knows, if no one is going to give it a try, I'll finish it myself, even though I'm on a map-free vacation. :)

Lovely. Looks fine and sounds good.

I'll take a turn to spam you guys with never-to-be-finished-by-me maps, some utterly worthless to me and of course, to you as well. There are a good amount.

Alien football ship

Berserkers deathmod test

Gianormous tree

Haelstrom Maze

Icy ghost ship

Little port town

Beware of the map's names as they don't quite correspond to the ones in this list. No screenshots yet because photobucket is down I believe. Will upload those soon. For now, be content with only the maps themselves. They contain the textures as well.

Edit: Most of the maps were crap, so I deleted them. The giant tree one did require some thought when I was making it so it can stay. The Maze thing is crap, but I'll still leave it there. All the maps are still in the mappack for download, but they don't deserve to be seen as options.

It looks better suited as a deathmatch map than a CTF/INF map.

Hmm, truly sorry about that. I meant to take the file out because of want to finish it, but I forgot about it here in the scrapyard. I will do that now, but if I do not finish this soon, the project is yours Niko, and nobody elses unless you yourself decide not to do it, or fail in the attempt ;) (unlikely).

Here's a map I intended to make 18 months ago, but never finished it (too much work in life). It was meant to have a junglish theme with lots of sceneries. Of course the texture and the colours weren't even definitive.

That is a very nice map GluLm, I'm going to finish it for you.  Based on the layout, it'll make a good Hold the Flag map.

Doesn't look like a good HTF map to me. A good HTF map can be played as DM. In other words, the spawns suck. CTF indeed might be interesting.

Anyways, here's my final scrap heap. Not all maps have screenshots (actually, not even half):

This is an unfinished map with a multi-texture. Maybe someone will find a good use for this, because I'm not gonna finish it anyway. I wanted to make a trenchwar map, but you can use the PMS to make a normal CTF map if you add some upper ways. There is no sceneries in the map.

I'll use that texture if I can't find a better one for an upcoming map of mine.  I'll experiment with that map and see what I can do with it.

These are some crystals I made for a Zombie Base update that I decided didn't really fit with the map. Nothing horribly complex, but I figured they may be of use to someone. Saved as a Polyworks prefab file.
