Sound effects vs Graphics

Who else thinks music/sound effects are more important to the game than graphics. By sound effects it includes everything you hear, and graphics include everything you see, not just music or whatever.

I'd say graphics. It's somehow more comfortable to look at something. Music/sound you can always turn off and won't bug you as much as turning off the monitor :)

Yeah ok, you know I mean more along the lines of good graphics or good sound, more along the lines of guns sounding like rifles or pop guns or the difference between 124 bit or HD or blu-ray or whatever.

It depends on the game.
For ghost recon or splinter cell I would say audo

But games like C&C its more visual.

It depends.. preferably both.

But actually soldat isn't very high in either aspect... the sfx aren't very high quality at all.. and the graphics aren't amazing..

It just goes to show, nothing beats solid, addictive gameplay.

I'd say sounds slightly more than graphics.

OK. But my post kinda points eitherway in what I prefer. I acctually don't mind bad sounds as long as it's not 8-bit or sound like a chicken :D

Personally, I find I can live without sound effects, but I can't live without graphics. I can always mute the sound if I find it annoying. So I'm voting for graphics.

Oh, and for people who really, really like sound effects, check out In The Pit.

I like both of them, but I don't like if a game has shitty graphics but great sounds. I love it when the quality of audio/video matches somehow. Like in Street fighet for example. Or to be more drastical, snes super mario

Definitely graphics, since I'm a person who often plays (quite well) sans aural cues. Sounds can sometimes be very annoying, like when I try to snipe and there's someone right behind me hammering away with an AK I just turn the sound off. But in the end, both are equally important, yet as Mangled said, they both take back seat to gameplay.

Especially if you have a good sound system, sound effects can make games much more atmospheric. Sure graphics are important too, but good sound gives it that enveloping edge.

For the reason I like sound more, a good reason is the game F.E.A.R. It would be fine with less graphics, but the sound really makes it great. Just like sounds of lights buzzing, wispering in the distance, and things like that make you get really into it. Especially at the end of the expansion pack, Extraction Point, you are leaving the last place, the elavator works, and nice music starts playing. Then you hear, very quietly "You didn't think it would be that easy, did you?" and a huge lound gunfight starts. Sound just helps you get into the game so much better.

Well of course you need graphics, but I think this thread is more- good graphics VS good sound.

I'd rather have great sound and music that gets you into the feelling of the game instead of reflections on guns and shadows.

I think graphics are better than sound because i can just open windows media player, or listen to my mp3 player while playing.

They improve each other, the main goal of sounds and graphics are to draw you into the game and make you forget for a second you are only playing a game, they try to make you feel like you are there, if either is done badly then the experience is gone.

Gameplay is what really makes or breaks a game.
