DM - Spaceout
« on: August 24, 2007, 03:01:17 pm »
Someone was complaining about the lack of infinite jet maps, so... I though I'd try something a little different. This map has no set boundries except the Soldat imposes. The gameplay area consists of the three asteroids orbiting the Earth, each a fair way apart. Erm... Well I can't think of anymore crap to write about it so without futher to do:

A compressed view of it:

Sun lolz:

It uses some PD photos and some scenery (glows and the sun) from my Soldat folder, not sure who made them though, if you did, say and I'll credit you in the topic.
Edit: Hmm, looked around and it seems the lights were made by SerialKiller.

I disagree with Niko's sun complaint. I find that the large sun gives the atmosphere a real beauty and helps the map create a good atmosphere. Only downside is the amount of islands/structures available for cover/means to land and defend yourself. I see this map as having a strong spray factor because most combat will take place in the air. Aside from that, lovely job, ghg. Keep em' coming!

Umm, well dur, this is an infinite jet map.

Let's just say, I couldn't have made it better, "and that's sayin a lot". Not saying that in pride or anything... You just did a nice job making it look hella nice.

Wow, I got comments and they weren't "OMFG NUBCAKEZ!".
I guess I was a little sparing with the asterioid things. I think I'll revise this a little, plus the earth scenery is a bit on the large size for how it's underused.

Well, the sun is in the distance and the earth is close by. It all works out right? I really like that earth...even if you make it smaller.

Alright, well seeing that the ingame backgrounds aren't seemless (and seeing that is quite obvious) I've rated this map as a 4. At least try to make the nice background pictures fit better. Find some way to smooth the transitions between each background.

Meh, I've added some smaller asteroids to flesh it out and some pickup-asterioids by the planet. Should play a thousand times better, I'm testing it now, if I'm happy with it then I'll upload.
Edit: Problem time: Polyworks adds a fugly fuzzy border around my polygons which makes them look ugly with the lighter background of earth and makes invisible walls impossible. Halp?
