Dual monitor help
« on: August 25, 2007, 03:17:47 am »
Hello again. I recently installed a new graphics card (ATI Radeon X1300) and noticed that it has dual monitor support. "Two monitors one card," I thought, "Gee whillikers!"

Well, seeing as I have another CRT monitor lying around I figured I'd give it a shot. Problem is, I have no clue how; the card only has one VGA input! (accompanied by DVI and s-video inputs.) "Deary me," I exclaim.

So, is there some sort of adapter I have to buy or some sort of wizardry I must perform to have the comfort and overall badassery of two monitors?

Thanks for reading.

(tl;dr: how the fuck do i hook two crt monitors up to my computer when my card has only one vga input dawg?)

Well on my Geforce7600GS there are two DVI inputs. One of my monitors is a CRT and I use a DVI-CRT component that came with the graphicscard.

So in your place you'll have to use the VGA and the DVI to get two monitors (I asume that both of them are on the same gcard). You could also use the s-video input and connect it to a tv to get a second monitor(that's what I switch to when watching movies :))

I suppose I'll have to go and get a DVI>CRT connector. Thank you kindly :)

I got two of those connectors included when I bought my GFX card, which is also an ATI one (Club3D) so you might want to make sure they didn't already supply you with one of those connectors.

No, it seems I was only supplied with the card, an installation CD and an instruction manual. How strange..

Might depend on the manufacturer. Graphical cards tend to differ a lot between diffrent manufacturers (especially performance-wise).

If you ever need more, try computer repair stores. I can get small components like that for free at one.
