Floor and Walls Invisible on Custom Maps
« on: August 23, 2007, 05:56:53 pm »
Today I was playing and almost every custom map I tried to play on, the walls and ground were invisible. On a climb map, that kinda sucks. Also, on pinkball everything was invisible except the middle separator wall and the lava. :P Help?

Try restarting Soldat or rebooting. This happened to me once, in my case simply making sure there weren't any running Soldat.exe processes and starting Soldat again worked.
There are other worlds than these

I don't know about the climbing maps, but after 1.4 I noticed that DB maps look screwed up in my screen...most of the stuff is missing, like you said.

This is because Soldat allows alpha in polygons, and didn't before. Maps created with old versions of mapping tools have this problem, because it never used to matter.

wow and we couldn't update soldat to be compatible with old colors?  that's a bit... unintelligent?
Can't think of anything original to put here...

There's no way to tell the difference between deliberate alpha 0, and an old map.

No, I was playing with my friend and he said he could see the ground.

I've tried rebooting and the such, but the same problem persists.

Is the texture the map uses for polygons present?

Each map has a texture that it uses for it's polygons. If it isn't there, the polygons won't show up.

You can tell if you don't have it if Soldat says that it can't find a file in the textures folder.

I laughed. This could be true though!
Anyway, if the texture wasn't there he would see an error message saying it's missing.

I have the same problem, as does one of my networked computers, and both have full texture support for my maps. It's probably an alpha problem, but is there any way to fix it besides redoing every single map?

EDIT: I just tried to fix Cabal in Polyworks, and it's an easy job. I just shotgunned the hole thing and turned every poly 100% opaque and it it worked. I guess I'm going to have to just do that on the rest.

This is indeed a way to fix the problem, although you might have a different version of the map after doing so and might not be able to play online with it.

Here's a topic related in a way: request map scanner

That's not soldats problem. Wrong map version which means map is from 1.3.1
