I think the most popular player is FLAB. You may not have played with him but you play his servers. And a lot of people would know him.

I find the number or soldat players to be declining compared to a two years ago.

Actually it's the contrary. I don't know about pubs but even though a lot of "veterans" quit, there are a lot of new players in the irc community.
