Oh i figured it out:
Duplicate Background layer, Delete the original Background layer, then use the Eraser tool and delete everything untill little grey squares appear everywhere, then put what ever ontop and *magic* transparent background.

There are a lot of ways to do transparency

magic wand is sometimes useful, but only on 1 color backgrounds, otherwise you need to use the eraser.

Partial erasage ftw.
To sum up my point: We had a multipage debate about toilet padding. (Putting TP in the water so you don't get splashed.)
And we still don't know if dead guys can keep a stiffy.

Color to alpha is great when you're converting scanned B&W images to color. Otherwise I use wand (adjust tolerance to suit) or magnetic lasso (occasionally) or eraser (for slow but total control).

The best way to do it is to use the eraser and start with a big brush and just go down as you need more precision. If you use the magic eraser, you tend to have some pixels that don't get picked up and you can't really see them until its already published.
