Laptop Gaming
« on: August 31, 2007, 04:23:42 am »
Hi all,

I was recently given an oldish Laptop and need some games to play. Currently Soldat isn't working (see here: http://forums.soldat.pl/index.php?topic=19556.0) and all I've got to play is a game called Shadow Armada. Any suggestions of (preferably free) easy to run games would be appreciated. :)

Thanks
Carpe Diem!

Get your specs, also laptop gaming is like using a butter knife to chop down a tree.

1 Ghz Intel Processor (:P)
256 Mb RAM
Integrated Graphics

I think I liked it better before I read those stats :/ It seems to run exceedingly well for something that bad.
It runs Soldat fine, so anything like that would be great.

All I did was get some of my really really old games (Simant from 95, Roller Coaster Tycoon, The Sims) for a 7 year old laptop.

Cave Story and GTA2 are some nice free games. Liero's cool too.

...

Or did you mean multiplayer stuff like Soldat?

Battle for Wesnoth, if you're into turn based strategy games.

My $1k somethin' laptop is such a pussy; it can't even run BFV right. I'm stuck with the 2D games atm.
To sum up my point: We had a multipage debate about toilet padding. (Putting TP in the water so you don't get splashed.)
And we still don't know if dead guys can keep a stiffy.

But isn't abandonware illegal?

Unfortunately, yes. Despite the fact that publishers no longer derive revenues from these games since they have stopped selling them (and any revenues from retailers that still sell them were gained a long time ago, at the time of sales), it is illegal to distribute them so long as copyright holders have not released them into the public domain, and 95 years after the games' release have not elapsed.
From their own FAQ.

QFT

Was about to write something like that. The games there haven't been confirmed by the companies to be allowed to be distributed.

Home of the Underdogs is not exclusively abandonware. They also cover indie games and those which have been legally released into the public domain. Proof: Soldat.

Yeah well torrent finders and p2p client aren't exclusively illegal, but since some of them have some illegal content they aren't accepted on these forums.

SO THERE.
