Halo?

With all this talk about the upcoming release of Halo 3, even Time Magazine had an article about it, I was just wondering what all this appeal is. To me, Halo 2 was mediocre at best. It was all just very bland. But then you talk to a Halo fan and they make it sound like the greatest game ever made. What's your opinion on this game?

Halo is a pathetic overhyped game. the single player is super easy and the multiplayer is the equivalent of a shitty PC shooter. Infact halo became a shitty PC shooter.

I like Halo and Halo 2. Halo 2's singleplayer wasn't too great, but the multiplayer made it really shine; Halo: CE excelled at both, and is therefore one shiny motherfucker. They're both overhyped to an extent, yes, but there's no doubting the fun of having three friends over helping you kick ass over Xbox live. Those were the days...

I have to agree. The game has nothing that's special or original that separates it from the rest of the shooters.

EDIT: The weapons are so un balanced in MP.

I bought BLACK for the xbox the other day, and it kicks ass compared to halo :/.

I love the story, thats the main feature which keeps me at it.
The multiplayer in Halo 2 was good fun with a bunch of friends. Especially popping peoples heads at 2am from across the map or being sneaky in Super Guy.
Halo 2 campaign wasn't exactly satisfying though. But the books have kept me wanting more and I just want to "finish the fight".
I don't really think its overhyped. Sure theres a whole bunch of stuff about it, but isn't that what the people want? The people crave for it and so it happens. If people didn't like Halo (or any other big game) there wouldn't be some much hype about it.

Take Half Life 2 for example, massive hype for that. I'm no big fan of it, but I understand that it has one heck of a following, so Valve make it seem big and cool, thats what people want.

halo is ok. Coop multiplayer is ofcorse the best way to enjoy it. I havent tried halo 2 though.

That's because Halo 2 WAS bland.  They took out a lot of cool features from Halo (exploding grenades would set off other grenades on the ground, etc.), and it was a rushed production.  That's why the story mode has a lousy ending.  But Halo 1 was classic.  They set up a perfect balance among melee, ranged, and grenades.  Also, the pacing of the game was just right.  Combat is quick and intense, and the breaks between combat are just short enough that you don't lose the "rush" from it.  They did a lot of things right in Halo, and that's why everyone loves it.

Halo is given 97 universal acclaim on meta critic while Halo 2 is given 95 universal acclaim. So like the consensus among critics is that the games don't suck?


So that's why people (including me) bought the games...because they don't suck.

I don't care what some game rater rates a game, what is good to you is bad for me. I like MegaMan Battle Network, you would probably hate it. I am just asking what is the appeal, the game is so bland it's not even funny. Play a good game, HalfLife, CS, Fear, CoD, etc. (I hate putting game names because I only post a few and people are like "Dood taht gam3 suxor stfu noob" so don't)

The appeal is it doesn't suck.

Controls are good for a console game, great multiplayer, shiny graphics, coolz weapons, etc etc etc.

The controls are terrible, even for having to use shit analog sticks, try to do a 180 with one of those and it could send you running for a lazer mouse.

Great multiplayer? are you kidding me? We have round-em-up weapons style so you start with some piece of shit and someone blasts you with the best weapons on the map. Don't start with good multiplayer, its a bunch of nine year olds on some monthly fee service.

Graphics? That shouldn't even count. What the hell is that bullshit. Putting good graphics on a bad game is like wrapping a shit in a candy wrapper, it looks like chocolate but when you try it, its shit.

Cool weapons? Yeah thats about as impressive as a Wisconsin tourist attraction. Well this one is a generic sub machine gun, and this one is a lazer thingy, and this one shoots a rocket, and this one has a scope NEVER SEEN THAT BEFORE

Halo series is mediocre at best, the people who like it are usually easily impressed or just never played a good game in their life.
