Frustrating as hell.

Am I the only one here who finds map making frustrating as hell? Poly's are positioned the way you don't want them to, and when I try to fix it I select another polygon by mistake. Also the controls are super frustrating.

Mapmaking is an art. Not everyone is an artist.
To sum up my point: We had a multipage debate about toilet padding. (Putting TP in the water so you don't get splashed.)
And we still don't know if dead guys can keep a stiffy.

Mapmaking is an art, but everyone, if want, can be an artist. Mapmaking is a form of expression, first, the polygon placement, if possible, multitextured. Then the colored, which is very important, then the sceneries, shades and final touches. Finally, if you do everything right you have a piece of art. The spent time isn't important, the final map is which imports. If this is frustrating for you, you can try to stop mapmaking for a while, then you probably will get the needed inspiration, which is very important to do everything what i said before. If you don't get mapmaking is fun, just a waste of time, don't do it.

Just a tip: Use polyworks.

It takes some getting used to, but when you get the basics down it shouldnt be too hard to evolve from there.

It takes a little time to get use to. It only took me a day to get use to though lol. I still haven't published a map cause they need more stuff in them.

I'd like to argue that a map can have a single texture, and a good mapper can make it look incredible. It's all in the use of color and placement. And what mapping really comes down to, is being able to make as pretty a map as you can while preserving great gameplay. People tend to forget that maps are meant to be played.

Heh.

Seconded. Multitextures are lame and conceal the true skill of a mapper; you are amazing if you can make a map seem like it uses multiple textures when in fact it only uses one.
