Xfire chat = hosed
« on: August 28, 2007, 03:29:26 am »
WOW the new xfire update really fucked us Soldat players.  Is anyone out there NOT getting ingame messages that block their entire screen?

Meh, I tried for like 2 hours to fix it and it is really really hosed in my opinion.  Posted in angry detail to xfire tech, meanwhile I recommend disabling xfire ingame messaging which is don0e thusly:

Xfire > Tools > Options > Games > (highlight Soldat) > (check 'Disable X-fire in-game')

If xfire gets me a better answer I'll post it here.  If anyone is NOT having this problem, or has found a fix, I would love to hear about it.

My xfire is fine, it's just that when I run it, my soldat fps goes way down.

I never have problems with xfire when playing because I log off and exit when I want to play soldat. 1, I don't like people bothering me and 2, it lowers your FPS.

I received the update today, it's improved, but the fps still runs lower when playing Soldat with xfire in the background.

That's why you disable in-game chat.

That's why you should use mirc.  Not laggy, and you've got gathers and such.

Some people like using Xfire to log in their total gaming hours accurately.
For signatures, you are allowed only one image in your signature which may not be wider and taller than 300 and 125 pixels, and may not be over 20kB in file size. No BMPs are allowed.

Nope, I'm fine over here.

Then again, I only use my Xfire to log my hours, and most of the time I have it minimized in the task bar.

Well my current solution is this... i have xfire enabled in game but with ingame alerts disabled.  This way I can hear that someone is xfiring me but I don't get my screen blocked until i choose to check the messages.

My setup:
 - xfire > tools > options > games > soldat > ('disable xfire ingame' is unchecked)
 - while in Soldat > scrolllock + x > f2 (xfire main menu) > ingame options for soldat > disable ingame messages

It works good like 95% of the time at least.  Still have occasional problems when I scrolllock + x and the message is offscreen, but its a fairly good solution.

On the subject of xfire slowing framerate, I don't have this problem, or at least in my case xfire does not seem to be the culprit.  My top FPS is 60, what really drops me out is when I minimize soldat there is like a 50% chance that it will shave 15-20 FPS off of me.  If this happens to me a coupla times I could be down to 15-20 FPS which is pretty much unplayable.

I generally advise my clan to stay on xfire at all times while playing in pubs and scrims, so we can keep in touch.  But right before a CW, we all go onto Ventrilo and I like to keep one guy that is speccing in the CW, on Ventrilo and on xfire, so he can provide communications with the outside world.

Yeah, I have the same problem

I changed the size of the window in game and when I leave does it save? nooooo ><

I gave up and simply just turned Ingame chat off

Edit: I hope this gets fixed in next Ver.
