Forum time format did this?
« on: September 12, 2007, 08:30:50 am »
Hey people..

I was posting in some thread about people addictions, and as I had done so, i suddently remembered some more I wanted to add. By mistake I clicked "reply" instead of just editing my most recent post, and as I didn't realise it, I typed on and posted that as well.

Then I noticed something strange.. The first post I made was posted at 03:22:something, while the last one was actually around 2 minutes earlier than that according to the forum. How can that be?

It's not a real issue, it's just something I'm wondering about..

:)

That is because the auto-merge timestamp mod doesn't take into account timezone of the viewer, it is hard-coded into the body of the post.  The timestamp for the post itself adjusts to the viewer's timezone.

The one hard-coded into an automerged post either uses the author's timezone or the server's.

I always thought that main post date shows newest "add" date and that date before new post is old posts date.

The first date is the date of the last post you made. The second is like the footer of your first post. That's how i see it.

Hmm... But the forums is hosted on an american server, right? If it adjusted to either my timezone or yours, shouldn't it be like 6 hours in difference, and not just a couple of minutes?

Isn't there a 30 second wait to post again?

Maybe it changed with the new feature of posting.

There are 4 or 5 things that could have caused it, none of them are weird or anything.  No big deal

I don't understand the situation... there is nothing wrong with this. The first post was at 3:20:31 and the second was at 3:22:51, which makes a lot of sense. It's a little confusing the fact that the date-time of the last post is on the top, but it's always like that in double or multiple posts. Search for "Date posted" to check it out. Here and here are some random double-posts.

Well, maybe it was 30 seconds, I don't really recall. :P

So the lower timeline is actually attached to the first post, while the upper timeline marks the 'editing' of the entire thread?

Sorry Bricks, you can close this one if you wanna..
