Login/Sign-ups
« on: September 14, 2007, 12:59:16 am »
I think that we should have user names and passwords for Soldat. Before you can start playing online you need to enter your user name or else! You could also add a lot more things like in-game stats, No more imposter's and things like that.
Here's a picture i made:

This has been suggested it is in one of the stickies : http://forums.soldat.pl/index.php?topic=7292.0

Stated : → An account system, a Counter-Strike style money system, soldier classes, alternate weapon functions, death from existing wounds (None of these will ever be implemented because any would forever ruin the arcadey, nostalgic simplicity of Soldat which makes it so popular, aside from the massive coding time)

You can do login/signup system with scripting for your server.

Ok accoun system can't be done ('cause not) :) So why just don't make a nick registration? It could be even to do on soldat.pl (you register nickname and nobody can take your nick)

That's what the NR service is for.

http://enesce.com/nr2/

Be aware, though, that it will only work on servers that have it enabled.

Would have to have clan tag support and such. I dont think its something that really is necessary, and it might make some newbies not bother to try the game because they're too lazy to sign up.

That's why I don't like it, I personally only started becuase it was so easy to start and is so carefree, I didn't want some long complicated ordeal to start. And it seems this might maybe could be difficult to code perhaps, if people were right when they told me other things are hard to code, like the filter idea that I like.

What would people think if it were to only require login/signup if you want to play online in a lobby-registered server?

What would be the benefits, besides your name not being taken by anyone else?

Each account would be given a UserID, which can be used to permanently ban hackers if they have dynamic IP addresses. And we can also stop people sharing their registration keys by binding them to a single user account. And could possibly even allow for global server admins. And if a ingame lobby chat feature were ever to be implemented, registration would be required as we don't want nuisance kids running rampart in the chatroom(s)....

Could also open up for an ingame buddy system, or such.
I dont think it would stop many hackers, since they would make a secondary account to use hacks.

Indeed they could make another account, however it would be a daunting task to make a new account. And their email address could only be registered to one account.

I think going from a pick up and play game, to suddenly become one account ONLY, would be a rough transition.

Events may occur that make people want to use another account. Perhaps they get a new nick or something, and cant make a new account if they have a static IP.

One mail per account would mostly be a nuisance to normal players, instead of a obstacle for hackers.

Which is why it might be useful to have a registration system for registered servers. You could still pick up and play the game, but to play on certain servers would require you to log in.
