Calculus / Math
« on: September 18, 2007, 07:21:09 pm »
Yeah, I hate this shit sometimes  D:

Grade 12 Pre-cal is like, a form of mental torture.

I don't mind algebra at all, cause I find it fun, and interesting to master.  I absolutely hate anything with fractions, or the unit circle, or graphing.  Algebra is win for me though, as well as Max / Min and this stuff:

3x - y -2z = 4
5x +y -z = 7
x -4y +2z = 12

Whee you have to find each variable?  Love it  ^_^ (Btw, made that one up, doesn't work, and I'm too lazy atm to figure it out and test)
...

What makes me mad is that some people in my class can pick up this stuff like it's nothing, and they never have to study or take notes...  and they get 90s.  I study every single day at lunch and during spare time and yet I barely pass with 67%

Anywho,

Retake the class, you'll find out how much easier its absorbs. Even after you learn stuff fast, atleast this holds true for me. I use to "struggle" with math. I would get good grades, I could repeat processes and memorize stuff, but that one extra math semester I took in college last year really help things sink in. Now as new materials come up in class I'm trying to figure out methods of solving before we learn and grasp things much better.

*Shrugs*, I use to be one of those kids you hate who never needed to study, but my 12th year in high school I took an easy math course and quickly was drained of all my knowledge, but then on the second time around, things just clicked.

Unit circle, hmm, I guess it just takes time and continual use. Graphing is very important, visualizing/translating/understanding graphing is very important though. Also, fractions are much easier to use in my opinion.

MAF HAWD!
Math is my least favorite subject, and it makes it worse that it is so important for many, many jobs. I hate school in general but I do fairly well.

I'm in 12th grade but am currently taking 11th grade level math this semester and 12th grade math courses next semester because I don't have the prerequisite knowledge for the 12th grade courses. I moved to Canada in May and the school I went to in the US sucked balls, so I'm basically stupid in comparison to this school's level now. We're currently learning adding/subtracting rational expressions (with fractions). It's nothing too difficult, but the teacher is a complete and total *****. Plus, she has a fairly thick accent that appears to be of an eastern European origin, so she is hard to understand. :(

Grade 12 Pre-cal is like, a form of mental torture.

You'll love calculus, differential equations, linear algebra, and all that fun stuff I have to take in college.

Only anime shows I've felt any interest in over the years are Pokemon (original TV series) and various hentai.

&#^% the cosine. The sine is where it's at. I hear you.

Currently taking Advanced Math. Right now we're really just reviewing Algebra 2, though we did learn about sines and cosines. And the int function, or for you programmers out there, the floor function.

functions (aka Algebra 2.0) is kind of cool but the classmates are so cutthroat! I hate that, I walk into a advanced level class (the midrange class system) and people are friendly or at least civil and willing to help you learn, everybody in these super high azn lvl classes are killing each other's grades like that would somehow make theirs any better.

I would be one of those students who pick up the material as if they're learning how to breathe. It actually upsets my teacher that I get A's on tests without doing homework the entire unit. I really do love mathematics. It's a subject that comes naturally to me.

I'm in AP Calculus. 12th grade. It requires a lot of legitimate work which I'm not willing to do, so we'll see how far along I'll get without doing any homework. >_>

I'm not sure why some people struggle with math. Perhaps it's just a method of thought. For example, my imagination is pretty much non-existant, so I suck at keeping my interest in any book.

Maths is my favourite subject. I do the hardest maths High School can throw at me and its still my bread and butter subject.

<3 Maths 4eva.

All i ever do in maths is talk and sleep. Every sheet the teacher hands out i just throw in the bin. Every exam i do i finish in half the time or less. I top my grade and my teacher hate my guts.

If you find it so hard why don't you just take Grade 12 college-level applied mathematics or whatever it's called? You don't even NEED a grade 12 math credit to graduate.

I've done a paper at the beginning of this year called 'yr12 general mathematics' and when i gave my sister to do (shes in year 6 - primary school) she scored 82%. I think that might be what you would like to do if you struggle in maths.
