CTF Tactics
A guide by Sytrus

Afterall, I'm back. Some may remember my other "tutorials" about sniping, the one hit-killers and the Ruger. Now, I felt like dumping all my knowledge I have made with Capture the Flag.
I've been playing in Leo's Realistic CTF for almost a year now, with some breaks and different names. It brought me my love to the realistic gamemode. Everything I will now say is based on expiriences in realistic mode. Most of them can propabely be taken over to normal mode, but some are just too relying on things like not-seeing the enemies.

Handling Enemy Flag Carriers

An Enemy Flag Carrier, short EFC, is an enemy of yours who grabbed your team's flag and tries to bring it to his team's flag to complete the Capture (Cap) and gaining his team a point. You, of course, will try to defeat this happening.

You have to be fast in order to get an EFC because he is most likely to have an advantage there. That speed you need can be obtained by boosting yourself or being boosted by your teammates. Use the Spas and shoot into the air opposite to the direction of your own movement so it pushes you. This works best when using the jets. When boosting, don't hit teammates if Friendly Fire (FF) is on.

Spraying[/u] should only be used if you know what you're doing. This means that you don't have any teammates within your range and you're pretty positive that the EFC is within the range of the spray. Since version 1.3.2 (I think), bullets dramatically lose in power once they go out of your field of vision, keep that in mind. Spraying with the Mp5 is useless, because the bullets just don't go far enough. Rather concentrate on getting closer. Spraying with the Spas is wrong because of three reasons; you lose speed, you might not even hit him and if you do, he's getting a boost out of it.

Use shortcuts[/u] to pop up right in front of him and penetrate his head. Finding out wether the top, middle or low route is a good shot therefor relies on personal expirience and well, guessing. I know for a fact that if the EFC on ctf_Run is chosing the middle route, the top route is a good idea. For some reason, it's pretty easy to catch him up because those many spikes up there can give you some momentum and more speed.

Stay neutral[/u]! Huh? Look: There are some maps where a FC (Flag Carrier) can exit the base at multiple spots and if you go onto him before he does, he outbrains you and choses the other one. To prevent this, just stay right in front of both, if possible. If not, trust your luck ;).

Try and get an offensive advantage[/u] out of an EFC. If the team is good, it will protect it's FC until he made it back. This can be used to tear a hole into the enmies lines because they'll be on a general backward momentum. Just try and push forward and wait for the perfect moment to finally sting in.

Teamplay Corner[/i]
For good teams like clans or in gathers, make sure that not more than half of the team chase after the EFC. This is to prevent that the enemies can use your speed + their speed to pass right by you, settle at your flagspace (FS) and wait until the flag comes back.
Split the team, so a certain amount of players goes up, a certain amount middle, and low, in case it's not known where the EFC is. If it is, have a big part go middle, for example, a smaller part high and one or two go low to be prepared of any change in situation.

Running it home - Friendly Flag Carriers[/u][/size]

A Friendly Falg Carrier (FFC) is the opposite of an EFC. He grabbed your opponent's flag and tries to run it home to yours.

That quote right there wins. Make one that isn't so dang simple, yours is like wait for the perfect moment to attack. Still good, make another more complicated one, like of INF or something.

Ergh staying neutral doesn't work for me. All the EFC has to do is wait for spawns, and leave you fighting off hordes of enemies. If you're attacking, make the first move.

I disagree on running back with the FFC to protect him. It will only result in a wave of enemies into your base immediatly after you cap.
Staying and keeping respawning enemies busy for a few vital seconds, is far better
