New "Anti-Hack" solutions
« on: July 12, 2006, 12:27:52 am »
This topic has been discussed a lot in the past i'm sure...

Stuff like global ban lists and new cheat detection systems have been suggested.

I strongly agree with the whole global banlist kind of thing. If a player is reported to the system with enough evidence (a demo for instance), then he would be added to a global banlist limiting him from joining any server.

There are systems like this that have proven effective as well. Valve Anti-Cheat, for instance, uses a global banlist. If you are caught cheating, you are permabanned from any VAC-secure servers. The bans are not disputable.

There could be other ways to stop cheaters too.... I dunno what though.

Trust me hunny buns, weve got it sussed out.

But about the global bans, tell me... How many players do you actually know that have a static IP, and dont have the ability to change it?

Well we could develop a system that is sort of like the Steam ID system.

Although this isn't my department.. :p

And then u got the problem of false accusations.

I have played soldat for ages, and just because i can actually shoot the barret or ruger with a degree of accuracy, some noob goes off with a kick vote on the count that i am aimbotting!!!

now my point is, first off, how can we tell if somebody is aimbotting?

And secondly, how can we be 'abselutley' (pardon my spelling!) sure that the person in question is guilty? Most global baning thingys are good because they are operated by moderators.

It would be expensive to support a global banning list because you have to get moderators to look over all accuastions! Personally i am content with the anti-hack stuff we have, hackers mostly operate in smaller servers with massive pings.

Most popular servers often have hackers kicked out as fast as possible.....

I think this could probably only work in countries, not globally. Too many people for it to be global.

Just make everyone in soldat required to use Vapour, and mabye vapour comes with soldat or something. Only bad thing about is the .NET 1.1 crap.

Happens on Wolfenstein Enemy Territory.

Im banned from every punkbuster server just because i can shoot a K3G properly....I really dont wanna be banned in soldat for being able to aim.

The idea is perfect, but this would require a system that would have to have 100% uptime and never go down.
There are other worlds than these

as opposed to a system that had 100% uptime and did go down?

Why would it be so important that the system stayed up? its not like it would take servers down if it was just a supplementary system.

Hehehe...

I once thought about making a small fan website with a weekly updated banlist to host so that people running servers could share their bans... still remains the non-static IPs problem.

How about some hash value generated from profile's name in Soldat and/or computer's ID? Or something else that is common to most windows users. That and IPs added...
Or make Soldat generate this hash value once for all when Soldat is installed, and that crypted in some unique file...

Okay, I know. I didn't sleep last night. *runs away*
Bring back Soldat 1.3.1! New bullet trails DIE!

Anything that is kept on the client machine (Computer ID, hashes blah blah) can easily be spoofed.
New Anti-Hack methods should be spoken about in private, not pub forums like this... Just gives the hackers an insight into what they should be learning about.

If Soldat had a login system it would be sweet, but theres alot of people against that...
