Looking for some futuristic guns
« on: August 15, 2007, 02:00:15 pm »
So, right now I'm working on a futuristic mod that WILL be done. I have the weapon concepts, but I don't know what should they look like. I have some guns already but I need more ideas. So if someone could give me a link to a site with some pictures, or possibly suggest what types of guns should I look for(as in, from what game etc) I would be really  grateful.

it depends...
i can say you ideas, but i can see the concepts?

You can make... a really heavy weapon replacing the m79 (like a fuel rod cannon)
and a chaingun/smartgun replacing the steyraug

I should have some outlines of the weapons. The weird thing is I have them in my head but I can't draw them. I've already made the descriptions(text). If you have msn just add me so I can send it to you.

Need ideas? Ok, at start simple, maybe too heavy, futuristic chaingun, but this fit in any genre of mod except modern and ww2.

Ok, I dont say, that you need this as Minigun, this is example gun intended to be Chaingun in any way, not only 0 slot.
Another weapon, more detailed, powered by energy cells, kind of blaster or laser gun.
---
Only outlines (every 60x16), because your own shading or modding style, can you show me your weapons finished or in progress, so I can make outlines more in your style or you want my intuitive (because I dont known exactly/clearly what is in your head, just thinking) creations and nothing more.

I didn't want your work. I'm not saying it's not good, but I want to make it myself. I just need the ideas. You can try with the outline and I will credit you for the design ideas

okay here's one gun. It's not very good but meh, it will be better

Looks like Henito's 'shading.' Which means that it's got no definition at all xD just a bunch of transitioning shades. Look to Dairy if you really want to shade well.

I dont known, what this gun supposed to be... Acid? Fire? Ice? Gravity? Plasma? Ion?
As you want, find by yourself.

Will's weapon:
Too bright, too flat, but you are close.
Espadon comment:
But with this technique is possible few unlimited variations just restricted only by weapon, new sub-techniques, this is just as start base, so rules can change in making progress, from main style are possible different unique styles, that's how this working in practice, unlimited creations without any restrictions.
Dairy's style is more shaded textures/textures with shading than regular/normal sprites.

I'm going for a more realistic aproach. hisngs adn weapons that could be done in the future.

Espadon, I said it isn't finished. It needs more detail and it shouldn't look as smooth. It looks good while zoomed in paint.net but I have to find a way to make it more crispier like your weapons.

Nah, I'd recommend actually focusing on in-games first. I pretty much have stand-in temporary menu graphics or none at all for all of my in-progress mods. If you really do want to do the weapons but have trouble with the outlines as you said, maybe you should try drawing them out on paper, then using a ruler, then scanning and resizing down to the required size before going over with a pencil or line tool.

I do interface guns first and then do the weapon gfx based of them to get the best detailing on them. And its easier.

I suck at menu gfx. I am rusty, and was always better at detailed in game gfx. Ah, well, practice and study.

Yea, sorry. The guns in the interface. I call them menu gfx. I have never done one. I had a couple 'o mods made back in the day, but before I could work off the weapons to make a good interface, my computer just...died. So...poop.

Futuristic,eh?

For me, futuristic weapons should be a bit blockish in shape, and be made of light (colour not weight) metal, with a blue muzzle flash.

Example: BF:2142.

Here is my version of a futuristic machine gun.

You can get the gun itself from here.

How about a laser;
- 3 second powerup time (with a recognizable sound, so people can duck for cover)
- 2 second fire time (where the laser will burn through all in its path), with the ability to move it around a little bit during the fire time
- 5 second cooldown

And, ofcourse, making the bodies disappear a la Syndicate. :)
