Push is the biggest thing to be offered from these new frameworks, since (as far as I know) the only way to do that with AJAX is using browser and server tricks that don't scale well (though somehow google has managed do a good job of it with their gmail gtalk client)

Flex interfaces are bug-ridden, especially the text input.

Looks good to me...

The page is oversized, browser shortcuts don't work and there are strange interface quirks like being able to scroll in a panel that has no scroll bar. Finding Flex bugs is like playing Where's Waldo. Not bashing your site, just pointing out that Flex has some major problems.

Or is it just the background image?

...browser shortcuts don't work...
No worse then IE AJAX Hax

...and there are strange interface quirks like being able to scroll in a panel that has no scroll bar...
Its like an open canvas to an interface designer.

Most of the problems I know are due to poor browser integration. Which open source should help. Feel free to tare my sh** apart for productive purposes.

Summary:
I say flex is better than AJAX if file size and runtime are the same.

xhtml only pawns all though!
