Another question that I could solve myself, but haven't yet: how do you access the palette? I've done all my maps without it so far, so maybe I ought to give it a try next map.

Window-> Show All
Window-> Workspace -> Reset Window Locations

Depth tool... nobody know how to use it. It don't appear in the guide   :-\

Do not use the depth tool unless you want to add light sources on your maps.

I shade the maps myself. I never used that tool and i think i never will use it.

Alright, well my palette is rather none existant. I did just recently update Polyworks from a pretty old version if that effects anything.

Forget it :-\, my palette does exsist. I was just being a noob.
