I'd say it would be best to have a newer system to run Soldat. From what I see the average processor speed nowadays is 2.0GHz and above. Depending on where you are (I'm in Canada) you can pick up a decent used/refurbished system for $100 which will have enough speed and ram to runs Soldat smoothly. As for video, a lot of newer systems also have up to 128MB or more onboard integrated video. On my older Celeron 366 system, I used to run 1.2.1 just fine on 8MB on the 810 intel integrated.

It is getting heavier for 2 reasons. First is the custom maps are really graphically intensive, that's not my fault. Second is the font rendering change in 1.4, it's a bit slower. But hey the world progresses. Does anybody still play Soldat with a machine before 2002?

What ever happened in previous versions maps were only made by you.  Since you made this game, you'd understand mapmaking the best.  I don't like most of the custom maps.

Plenty of people here still use old computers.  I have graphical problems with the minimap and with transparent polygons.  I can't do anything about it but I just live with it.

Actually, I dont think its soldat but rather these 1000 polygon maps and 500 scenery maps that are causing framerate to lower massively.

On old maps like Viet/Kampf/Laos I get 75 FPS, on Trenchwar maps or the current B2b I get 55-60 FPS.

I think its the complete opposite.  For the original default maps, they tend to run fast and I can play with a decent amount of players.  For high quality maps that have a lot of details, run extremely slow.

El_Spec, that is exactly what I said. Make sure to read other people's posts before you reply to them...

Yeah, look who's talking.

I have a computer from 2001 and a laptop that cannot run soldat (winME) I avoid gaming on them like the plague.

I guess was in a hurry, so I didn't have time to read your post properly.

I don't really think it is map's fault.  I agree with what Flies said about Soldat possibly having some kind of bug in it which causes it to slow down in certain situations.  Whenever I'm in a server and when there is all the players in one screen range, Soldat would most likely crash.  We're running ctf_Kampf and its a map with low details.

Also with the new features like font shadows and bullets losing power after a certain range tends to slow down the game because it makes your PC work harder to power all of this.  In older versions, they didn't have these features and it ran 4x faster.

Not true. On 1.2 my fps on soldat was 65 and on 1.4.2 its now 15 to 35fps so on soldat versions its 2x faster.

I dont notice anything. If anything it works better now. Then again I had dial up during the 1.3.1 era and now I have DSL.

Maybe try defraggging your computer guys...yes, my FPS has gone down...but maybe defragging can help it a bit...

It did wonders last time I had ping problems.

I've already tried defragging my hard-drive.  It doesn't help that much.  Its not much of a problem with our computers, its Soldat as we've been discussing is getting higher and is making it harder for our PCs to power it.

That doesn't affect your FPS, it makes your pings (generally) lower.

I'm on a 6 year old HP Pavillion with SDR ram, yea I said it SDR ram lol, and a onboard chip set. My computer is garbage, Soldat is probably the only game I'm capable of running. Is it slower than when I used to play? I'm not too sure about that. Maybe, but I know I'm still capable of playing it. I don't think you guys should have too much problems with it on your systems.

Thats what I'm saying! Like I said, it's like the only game that I can play... Not that I mind though, for something so simple it's a great game, no denying.

Lol, like it's important..
If there is going to be a giant change to Soldat i hope it are the graphics.
If you can't run Soldat you probably can't open IE/FF and MSN Messenger at the same time.
