Original post:

This was mentioned a while back before we opened the boards that we should have a system to merge double posts. Now that I now how to install mods manually (necessary because of our custom theme and features/changes), I can install this mod to manually or automatically combine double posts.

I will update this thread once the changes are completed so that any bugs can be reported and questions can be answered

I hope you guys that people don't double post to spam, but rather because they're newbies and they are not familiar with forum etiquette

This should be nice, all you need now is a mod that makes "ppl" to "people" and alike. I hate it when kids type all....AOL'y.

i dont know about how many people do it because there newbies. seems like ds dude and kinky noob double and triple post a lot, and they have been on forums long enough to know that. but anyways yeah this would be great.

It seems like they're both relatively new to forums and not familiar with the etiquette yet. Wait a couple weeks and I'm sure they will get better

When you do inplement this, should we still edit our posts, orr can we just post again, say in the quick reply box?

I learned the hard way to get around in forums, learning the etiquette. Got banned from some other forums, LOL. But I was young at those times so

That can be done using the word censor.

please still edit your posts, because if the mod ever has to be disabled or anything, I don't want to have a ton of double posts.

Plus, when it auto-merges your posts, it won't show up the same as if you had just gone and edited it

That's pretty cool, were can see when people double posted, so we can still flame them, yet they don't really double post.

I'm a bit unsure why this makes 'double-posting' still a sin.

This solution is quite similar to editting now, in my opinion. Instead of pressing the modify button, you make a new reply and both have the same outcome.

Being mad at them for such a thing would just be confusing and utterly pointless in my opinion.

the simple fact is that there is a modify button, and I don't want people getting used to the double post merging mod because:
1) you don't want to get used to double posting and having it fixed for you in case the mod breaks or is removed
2) if you get in the habit of double posting and having it fixed for you, there's a decent chance you'll go to other forums and double post by accident
3) we see when your posts are merged and it makes you look like a newb.
