Firing while invincible
« on: October 16, 2007, 01:08:59 pm »
Basically, you should be able to fire during your spawning invincibility. Otherwise, this pause is actually a DISadvantage for people spawning, as people can time their bullets to hit at the exact time the invincibility runs out. This is already in so many other games, and would really help against spawnkilling.

And really, is there any reason this shouldn't be added? And none of that "ruining the feeling of Soldat" bullfeck

concider Deathmatch where people are spawning all around you. You might be running there with 50% HP and an invicible guy is going to get a few extra shot at you before you can even fight him back.

If it is CTF only, I can agree.

The entire point of spawning invincibility was to prevent spawnkilling, this should've been here in the first place. I mean, MM added the invincibility and everything, but left out a vital part.

Think of this from both sides. Someone running with 50% HP shouldn't have the advantage over someone who just spawned. He's already been playing, better he gets killed than spawnkill the guy who just got back in.

And, were this added, it would probably be a checkable option.

Actually, the knife was originally the only weapon to able to be used while invincible after a respawn (because of the charge up time), but it was removed in the 1.4.2 update.

Due to this, after I spawn and switch to knife immediately, sometimes I think the knife is fully charged when I hold down my throw weapon button and then release it shortly afterwards, but it's not, resulting in my throw being weak and just falling straight down. (I hope you understand what I'm attempting to say here.)

It was removed for good reasons, and I doubt it will be allowed. Just run away.

My suggestion for spawn-killing....

Reflexes :) If you dont have them, develop them, if you cant develop them, go play an RPG...

I do like the idea, f12, but doesnt seem my approval will make a difference :P

Yeah FFS, reflexes. Especially when enemy is with m79 and you CAN'T dodge or run away.

ontop: I fully support the idea. (grrr... "thx" for fixing the "overuse" of "knife bug" - spawn killers FTW!!)

Aye, instead of taking it away they should've expanded it for all weapons...

F12, but dont increase it too much to where spawnkilling is no longer a viable tactic. Make it just enough so that you have enough time to duck under a shot, jump over it, or fire back.

We don't wanna increase invic time ; we want to shoot while invic is on.

It would be easier to adjust the invulnerability time period than to completely reprogram all the weapons to where they have no charge and can otherwise be instantly fired.

??? IMHO it's just removing the lines that make your soldier unable to shoot while invulnerability.

Well its simple, make it like other games, you are invincible for 10 seconds if you are immobile and keep the current invincibility time if you move. As soon as you shoot, Invincibility goes off either way. So you have to choice of a short invinc but you can move, or a long invinc but you have to wait.  Like that, if someone is near you, well you are the one who chooses when you get back in the game. You also have the advantage of the first shot. Finally the spawnkiller can't predict when the invinc will go off, so he cannot time his m79.

I think it's the logical solution.

Seconded.
To sum up my point: We had a multipage debate about toilet padding. (Putting TP in the water so you don't get splashed.)
And we still don't know if dead guys can keep a stiffy.
