UPDATED: CAPTCHA to prevent bots
« on: July 12, 2006, 03:14:56 pm »
Since we apparently are starting to get traffic from advertising bots on the forums, I will be installing this mod into the board to prevent automated registrations.  I will post back once it is updated so that any bugs or problems can be reported.

While installing this, I encountered a bug... most likely in the mod.  I need a couple days to look it over and hopefully I'll get it figured out.

You could use the cute verification test.

"“The ink of the scholar is more sacred than the blood of the martyr”"

KittenAuth V2 Test

It began as a simple "pick the kitten" test to verify that you're not a bot and expanded to the example above.

"“The ink of the scholar is more sacred than the blood of the martyr”"

Great, but unnecessary. Simple image with numbers and letter would do the trick fine

yeah, but I've got no need to code that if a mod already exists for it.  From what I saw of this one, it doesn't have tons of stupid crap, its just an image with numbers/letters.

If all else fails, I'll push this down my list as "Something to code" and will code it by hand.

I don't think I ever posted to say this, but a long time ago I made some small changes to the code on the registration page and so far it has blocked over 5000 bots from registering on these forums.  Notice that we haven't had a single piece of automated spam on the forum in a very long time ;)

If you're wondering how I did it, look at the HTML for the form on the registration page.
