unacceptable

Wow, thats bad.

All kidding aside. After 6 years focused on web development I still have no idea what causes those random conflicts. With any hosting OS, hardware or browser they still happen. Any ideas?

That might have something to do with it.

there are tons of things that could have caused it, not the least of which could just be one or two arbitrarily lost packets between you and the server.

It doesn't become unacceptable until 50% of the pageloads are like that *cough*oldforums*cough*

If 5% of the pageloads did that and it affected most people, then I'd say it could be a server issue... but this is not the case

But yes, I do get the occasional pageload problem like that, on any site (though I'm talking about maybe 1 in 1000 pageloads or less).

It is usually/always a communication thing between client and server (data corruption most likely or something), because refreshing it while it is in the middle of that stupidly long pageload almost always makes it load instantly.

As a follow-up, this problem has been fixed.  I believe it was primarily due to some changes I made to optimize my apache configuration, though I'm sure it was also helped by new versions of php, apache, and SMF that I have been keeping up with.

If anyone still sees this problem, please post here, preferably with screenshots and a mention of the URL you were currently loading

On a side note, why hasn't this forum been upgraded to 1.1.X yet? Would it break existing mods, and stuff like that or what?

themes, mods, custom changes we've made .... lots of stuff.  It will take a lot of testing before we upgrade and that isn't something I've been able to start doing

This was a year ago.  I'm not sure why flies bumped it.

Because posting in the thread that the issue has been resolved is the right thing to do, and it was only recentlyish that I resolved it (around the time of the 1.4.0 release).  I've only realized recently that the problem is gone.
