dm Sandstein [revised!]

dm Sandstein
The name means Sand Mummy...well, that's a literal translation I believe. Anyone recognize this? I suppose Keron would. I believe he (you) posted on my original thread. Well, this is an attempt at a redo. I've been going through old maps to see what I can improve upon. I've always like the way this played, and how I originally waypointed it (although that needs tuning..). So, I've done a bit of changing around, finally making use of the prefab function...and it's pretty handy.

So here's my tune-up. I thought, well a dm is never fun with big obvious dead ends, so I changed the upper portion to loop itself back to the outside. I also reshaded and did a lot of polygon fixing. There were a looot of bugs...Otherwise, the bottom portion is almost the same, I hate to admit. I'll change around that long hallway in the bottom left corner sometime. That's too bland.

Well, hope you guys enjoy, somewhat. It's actually surprisingly fun for the roots of it being my 2nd map altogether. The scenery was left pretty much the same, except for in the revised sections. Yup.

Criticism:

Well, first of all, i like more the map without remake.

In the remake you added LOTS of unnecessary platforms, i don't understand why.

You have used nicely x.bmp in supports, in the remake there is no one, no supports, so it looks like is going to crash on you, there is a bottleneck near the bridge =/.

If you fall down in the left side there are some bushes where they shouldn't be, then another bottleneck, this wasn't in your first version.

There is (In the remake) no background image in the bed room.

When you want to go up (In the big room), there are more bottlenecks, they will make hard pass through, those weren't in the old version.

The cloud in the lower level gave a foggy effect, very nice, but laggy, try adding fog.bmp like thin clouds.

In the first version, the tunnel with background was nicely shaded, and had darker colors, this isn't in the remake.

The old version got a big and empty room, that dislike me, but i can't give you advice about what to put in, obviously, not thin platforms.

You can't shade properly a map without a good amount of good structured polygons, i can see how many polygons got the ground, the old version haven't any kind of shade, as i can see, but there are, still, many light polygons in places without light, like the lower tunnel.

What are doing those doors?

Lower room of supplies have all what it should have and the ground got properly shades (Old ver.) But, in the new version the background is much light and doesn't have properly shades...

------

I would be writing some more things, but i got to continue mapping, i don't understand why i like more an unremaked map... It is much better, in terms of gameplay and looking.
