What's with the popups?
« on: October 29, 2007, 01:15:43 am »
Oi..

I just cleaned my system(like yesterday night before going to bed) with add-aware, to remove cookies and whatnot. I know it isn't at all the perfect program, but I reckon it works pretty well. However, as I logged on to the forums today, I had two commercial popups. Some pill thingy..

Is this the forums, or do I need to cleansweep again?
Thanks,
echo

Here is the solution to your problems.

Ha, thats fecking suicide.

c) Has no idea that gametap doesn't work on linux

If he's that desperate to play that game (or just about any other game), it might work under Cedega
There are other worlds than these

As it says right on ubuntu.com:

Quote
Ubuntu is a community developed, linux-based operating system that is perfect for laptops, desktops and servers. It contains all the applications you need - a web browser, presentation, document and spreadsheet software, instant messaging and much more.

All fun aside you have a better chance of keeping your computer clean in linux.

Yeah, my mom was constantly getting viruses and adware and crap on her desktop, I would have to clean it off or reinstall it every few months.  I put Ubuntu on there 2 years ago and she's not had a single complaint or problem with anything... at all.  If she ever needs help with anything, I just SSH or VNC in from school and can help her, but that is extremely rare.

After FLABs success story I did the same for my mother. She destroyed her computer installing printer drivers. So 4+ months ago I moved my mother to Ubuntu. She has not has a single problem since. And her printer works fine now XD. My mom thinks its cool how I can use her desktop remotely while she it looking right at it. (VNC)

Maybe the knuckledraggers like your parents can't use a computer without breaking it but some can... everyone in my family uses windows and we have never had any problems like this. Not saying linux is bad or crap like that to you hard ons out there...  just a new op isn't the first way to go, sometimes one or two simple programs can fix stuff like this.

those one or two programs don't "fix" the underlying problem of Windows being insecure and easily exploited, they simply try to mask it.

Similarly, smearing your computer in tar and feathers doesn't make it a chicken either.
