help me out with whats IRC

i just found out all the best normal and r players are using IRC. i'm looking to go up against some competition and i wanna meet the whos who of normal and r mode. i actually can find r servers and i know their passes but this IRC thing is new to me. please explain.

TY VERY MUCH i'm so excited to get into the normal mode community and r or where ever the pros actually play. its been 2 years and i've only found good players consistently in r/s.  r/s is dying too.
