Bot protection
« on: October 19, 2007, 10:10:55 pm »
I was thinking a kind of thing for the V.I.P mode ideas, but instead kind of a...

Hmm.. well you know the thing in bot makers, where it says 'Bots friend' (or something). The bot wont fire against his friend. How about another one marked 'Protect bot: _name_. Your bot will stick close to the V.I.P bot (or whatever you want to call him) and fire at enemies trying to kill the V.I.P. Or they could just stick together if that would be hard to code (no experience in that area, sorry).

Yes or no?

Another thing to go with this could be a Bot Attack option. So, like [Bot Protect: _V.I.P_], there would be a [Bot Attack: _V.I.P]. If the V.I.P bot is in their line of site, they go for him only, and no-one else. But if he wasn't in the Line of sight, they'd fight normally (whilst sticking to their own V.I.P of course.

So, not really a new game mode, more like the basing for a sub-game mode.

So, you want to program bots so that they team up with players/other bots?

They already are teamed...

No... read my post please, I never said anything like that...

I mean, you could program bots so that they would protect ONE PARTICULAR bot. No-one else would matter. Where ever that bot goes, their team goes.

This would be great, to full maps like D-Day, with a huge amount of soldiers going to kill the turrets, and the enemy team going to kill the Major =)

Would open new doors to other gamemodes...  ::)  ;D

would it just mean that bots pile infront of a V.I.P bot, concider this to be a 2D game, and the bots wont jump over eachother to shoot.
They will fire their m79s and grenades point blank into eachother, and shoot trough eachother.

So 2 nades and some spray could take out the whole bot gang.

I think this already happens, while you are playing with the bots, they try to protect you no matter the cost.

Would make old programs obsolete but I like this idea.  I support it.

viceroy, what you said was wrong, he's not suggesting that. stop trying to start a flaming match.
what hes saying is they'll all group round one player/bot, as in follow him no matter what he does. what happens now is they follow the waypoints on the map

i like this idea, but might not work well in realistic. would work if they changed bot programming so they wont shoot through each other.
plus they'd start really swarming in things like zombie mode.

ahh i understand what you mean. On jamesbond agent underfire you had a gamemode where there is a V.I.P one team would try to kill the v.i.p and the other team had to protect the v.i.p If you killed the v.i.p you got a point. If you could protect him until time was up you got a point for protecting. after every point you switched positions. it was fun
