All your oil are belong to U.S.

Yeah, I mean, we have so many alternatives, right?

Hydro
Wind
Geothermal
Nuclear
in cars there isVeggie oil
Bio diesel
electric
compressed air
hydrogen

The thing about hydro and geothermal is that they are unreliable - for example the shrinking Niagara Falls or the cooling down of geothermal sites. People also have problems with these techniques because of adverse effects on the region. For bio diesel our public transportations department recently began implementing it into their buses, so maybe it's closer than we think, but the important issue would be the emissions. - I think about 30% more than petroleum. Compressed air - pneumatics. But a-4-year-old is still makes a valid point about the variety of power sources. Naturally few of them are actually developed, because alternative energy sources have never really been prioritized.
Nuclear disarmament is a crock of feck, Chernobyl happened 20 years ago in the Soviet Union. But solar power is still inefficient, and that and wind require vast areas for relatively little energy. Geothermal is useless unless you're near a volcanic area, and hydro unless you're near water. And all of these require land, and therefore environmental damage. Electric car power just moves the pollution away from the car, as does hydrogen, if it ever becomes close to feasible. Air requires power to pressurise, and decreases in power as the air tank decompresses. Biodiesel is great if you want to void your car warranty.

As for wind, yeah, there are a lot of windy places. But it would require a lot of towers to actually use enough of it to be effective, which costs a lot of money, and they're pretty delicate, so maintainance would be a feck, which is more money. As supplemental sources of energy, sure, they don't hurt, but they don't generate nearly enough as oil as cost-effectively. thus, not too practical at the moment. As for compressed air, "Compressed Air: Take the combustion out of the internal combustion engine." sounds like a political slogan, not a scientific explanation. Like, "we only use 10% of our brains."The Soldat Forums is a place for elaborate, sophisticated scientific discussion. if you're going to bring up some weird new technology, the burden of proof is on you, explain it, link it, don't be a lazy ass and expect us to.
