PS3 Controller and Soldat
« on: April 26, 2010, 04:43:55 pm »
Hey Soldat Community.

I've recently made my PS3 Controller works with some applications like Dolphin.

As it recognizes it etc. i would like to know if i could convert like Keys to the Controller's buttons. I tried binding up the buttons in Soldat, like pushing the fire and then pushing the X by exemple, but it didn't work..

Any solutions ?

You would have to use another program that listens for the PS3 controller's button presses and then converts them to regular keyboard buttons. Soldat's old DirectInput is cool like that >_>

I tried installing PPJoy on Windows 7 ( I am indeed, in Test Mode ) and it didn't want to install, it said unsigned drivers blah.

Do i need to install it or i can configure soldat keys through GlovePIE scripts ? Maybe through JoyIDS ?

Forget about trying to use a controller with Soldat. You can't aim fast enough with your thumb. I do understand that being a platform game, it is almost natural to play a platformer with a gamepad. I sure wish I could. I tried Soldat once with a controller and everything except shooting and aiming felt good and natural. I do actually want to build a custom controller that has some rather unusual controls and test it out with Soldat, but I still think that mouse and keyboard will be the way to go for this game. :/

Actually my request wasn't to use guns. Only jumping, jetting crouching/proning. Well i guess it won't be realized. Thanks anyways

If you want to use a controller for jumping, jetting and crouch/prone.. then go ahead. Those actions work perfectly fine with a controller. If you're not aiming or using guns, then a controller is perfect for Soldat. Once you do need to aim and shoot however... then you're gonna need a mouse, or some clever handheld device that will allow you the same accuracy and speed of a mouse. I'll have to dig up the program I was using... I think it was Joy2Key or something funky like that.

you are true. but the controller would be for fun .. and all ps 3 ,xbox games are played with controllers as well (most of them)
and there are pros with that as well.
i would like to have that implemented in soldat
