I can't find any clear help.
« on: November 25, 2007, 11:32:33 pm »
OKiDoki.

I searched around as the sticky told me to do. But all I found was how to port forward, why is my ping 9999 and all that (junk).

But seriously, there isn't anything I (or atleast my semi-lazy bum) could find that actually tells you
step-by-step what to do (ok, doesn't have to be step by step, casual is OK). I tried searching "How do i set up a server" in the forum serach and everything.

For example. What do you need to download? and where? I downloaded the soldat dedicated autostart thing, but after i extracted it, there is nothing there I can start a server with. Do I have to extract it in the Soldat file?

Next, what button do I click? I know how to forward my ports a long time ago, so I don't need my help. So far I have just forwarded a port under the name "Soldat" with both udp and tcp ports from 2000-3000.

Ok, hope I'm not piling too much crap on the unlucky reader.
(are u really still reading?)

Am I supposed to just use the game start button on the main soldat game launcher, or am I supposed to use the little black box server thing that only tells you what players are in there and you can only talk to the players in your server.

Also, some tutorials and readmes tell you to edit the Soldat.ini and maplist. Do I have to do that? For what situation and what programs do i use it for. Me so-OoO-0o Confused.

Me NooBz0Rs - Feed t3h noob.

Thank for the help!

Run the server tester (take a look at the stickies in this forum) and show us the results.  Maybe you should read the rest of the stickies while you're at it.

Some steps depends on what soldat server you want to use. If you want a dedicated server you have to download it apart from the game (it's not the "dedicated server" that comes with soldat). You can get that here: http://www.soldat.pl/down-s.html

If you just want to make a server to play a while with some friends you can use the "start" button in soldat. If so, you can configure all the options from the game menu.

If you are running the dedicated server, you'll need to configure everything from soldat.ini, and set the map list in mapslist.txt.

if i dont use a dedicated server, can I still have other players from the internet come and play? and how do i specify ports and everything if i dont use dedicated? I already downloaded the dedicated thing, but It doesn't seem to work. I double click the white wnidow thing labeled "soldatserver" but it doesn't do anything. Do i have to copy and paste everything into the soldat file with all my game content and game launcher?

I forwarded my ports and started a server using the dedicated server start thing and the test just says everything failed except ip. lolol. I can run servers on other games fine. But this is just a bit complicated.

Yes, others can still join you, but it is highly recommended to use the latest Soldatserver.

You need to modify Soldat.ini-file. Set Adminpassword, server settings, everything you want to change. Then you ad some maps to mapslist.txt-file, which should be in the soldatserver folder aswell, just like Soldat.ini.

http://devs.soldat.pl/wiki/index.php/Server should also help, though that article needs more information, especially about running the server on Windows

alright, cool!  I got it to work =) thanks

But one last question:

so i click the "startserver", and it starts teh server fine. People start coming in and playing.

I want to type some commands into the "command" or "exe" black box thing to change it to non-survival mode and cahnge the map. Problem is... it wont let me type it in there.

What do i do?

You can't type commands in there, you need to either do admin commands from in game or outside the game with a program like ARSSE

Also, in order to be able to connect to your server from ARSSE (or any other admin client), you must set Admin_Password in soldat.ini.
