A nice step for human evolution.
« on: December 09, 2007, 05:18:16 pm »
Wouldn't it be awesome if we didn't need to sleep? Doesn't seem so weird if you think of it, for example, the cells of the heart work non-stop till you die...imagine if every other cell in the body didn't need resting. Looking forward to it.

It would be crazy, having to occupy yourself 24/7, though would that mean we would still be effected by fatigue? The work force would change dramatically, most if not all stores would be open 24/7 as well, we'd be able to devote more time to research and production. But i do have to say some great ideas were made while lying in bed, just because thats when most people have time to reflect on their lives. Also, late night TV might have better things to watch, night > day IMO.

No. Just no. If we didn't sleep, we would spend several MORE hours of our lives in endless boredom. If it's late at night and I'm bored, what do I do? I sleep. That's right, that's also a way to pass by time until something interesting might happen. I wouldn't want to be awake all the time anyway... just a bit wierd...

What a dumb topic. Evolution can't make that. Because of how it works, and because all higher animals sleep. And no, it wouldn't be awesome. And no, don't make another "what if" topic in the future. Better focus on now and here.

I would love not having to sleep. Mostly since I never get to bed in time, and I know that I will be completely dead in the morning.

It doesn't seem dumb at all. How do you think whales survive? They can't exactly sleep eight hours a night, else they'd drown. In fact, apparently dolphins shut down only half of their brain at a time to let it 'sleep'. And apparently newborn dolphins don't sleep at all.

It would be great, could play WoW for 24h a day without energy drinks! Yeah, we wouldn't need energy drinks either!  :O

The fact that you wouldn't need any sleep doesn't mean you couldn't stop and think what's going on. I do it before and after sleeping, and I don't need to go to sleep to do that.

Not much more pisses me off than assuming someone who listens to HIM is an emo. I happen to live a very fulfilling life and think absolutely nothing along the lines of depression. How can I be an emo? And explain how so many people I know aren't emo, yet listen to HIM. People who follow generalizations are retards.

And what the f*ck does listening to HIM have anything to do with this topic?

I'm not saying that it wouldn't be cool to not NEED sleep, but if we didn't sleep, what the hell would we do to pass by large periods of time?

Sleep is awesome. Now if you go without it you go insane. How are we supposed to transfer short term to long term memory? Or repair muscles? not sleeping would just waste energy.

besides "Oh boy, sleep! That's when I'm a Viking!"

your a fecking fecker you know that?

my compromise for the argument is that you dont need sleep, but you could sleep if you wanted to. That would be awesome.

besides "Oh boy, sleep! That's when I'm a Viking!"
For some strange reason i pictured you typing that post then running around, yelling and cursing like a viking until you got bored.

4yo: Yargh! I shall Plunder your village and force myself apon your women!!! Yargh!! because vikings go yargh right [retard]?
I love sleeping, but i also have a stance on not sleeping.
If I didn't sleep i would have more time to do things i wanted to like exercise and write things and think about things i don't do these things when i'm about to sleep.
I can sleep when i die.
Although evolution doesn't make this happen, unless several generations were born without needing to sleep. Which is doubtful of ever happening.

Cause vikings go
Lol, internets.

Exactly.

Not requiring sleep =/= not being able to sleep.

And you my friend are practically proof within yourself that only retards agree with generalizations. I'm not an emo feck, and I certainly have absolutely no relation to your sexuality. And I'm fifteen, you dumb fuck.

On Topic: IQ, that's pretty much the way I think about it. As long as I CAN sleep, I'd like it.

So might I ask how anything I said in this topic has related to me being emo and you not being a total dumbass?

And now that I think of it, I really don't sleep all that often. I get only around 6 hrs. max most of the time. Maybe I could even deal with it if we COULDN'T sleep.

I would totally love not being required to sleep... do you realize how much more time I could spend doing homework and projects at last minute without worrying about tiredness? I could procrastinate more and still be able to pull off cramming without consequences.

Wow. I never thought of it that way. Good point. (I am a procrastinator... big time.)
