I don't think that either big bang theory or creationism should be taught in schools (which is the problem most christians have with the theory) Since it changes/updates faster than a linux distibution, schools would deplete their whole budget just getting accurate textbooks. And forget the bible as a textbook, what was that about church and state?

First in the advanced physics courses are studends taught the hardcode physics around Big Bang. In the junior courses the studends are only told the fundamentals that haven't changed much since their discovery, such as: That the universe is expanding, is likely around 13.7 billion years old, and it used to be smaller, denser and hotter.
That wasn't what we learned. We learned things like "Everything came from nothing" and "You evolved from dirt" other such inaccuracies. We thought we came from some tightly packed ball that spins really quick and planets started flying out or something.

My point was that it is a theory that is still changing and isn't as set in stone as say, avagadro's number.

Also it is a little scary how much people made the big bang theory into a religion of sorts.

Advanced physics courses, genius. 7th grade isn't advanced by a long shot.

Exactly. there is no need to teach 7th graders about the big bang anyway.

Sounds more like creationism tbh! I'm sorry if your physics teacher didn't know a lot about the theory, but you've just been told wrong.

Big bang has not been made a religion. There are no rituals, traditions, mythology or faith involved. It's an interesting physics theory that happened to go against the teachings of many religons. If someone were to challenge religious writings using cosine, you could might as well call trigonometry a religion.

Aye, why bother mentioning photons as the wave-particle duality hasn't been solved yet? Why even bother teaching them anything? You never know what's been updated in ten years. Physics is about giving the best explanation known to date that works.

And then thus spoke God: 'Let there be BANG.'

They're (we) are just defending the theory, as the alternative holds as much scientific credibility as The Odyssey.

Some say "I think everyone should respect eachother and not push their beliefs upon eachother." Which would get the response "wow joo're so deep," "nicely put" and so on.

Well I seriously doubt humans of different faith and various atheists can co-exist peacefully as there will always be fundamentalists and people wanting to "enlighten" others. As long as religion exist there'll be baised decisions, discrimination, hate, killings, international tension etc. based upon it.

Certainly it fits in with what I call evasive religion. Where belief is forced to flee from science and the advances in understanding we gain every day. God used to literally be a humanoid deity that lived in the clouds... now because of evasive religion he's an ethereal essence that can't be detected by science.

Quote the scripture that states this. Or give me Book and verse.

What difference would that make? What's the difference between the opinion of a writer who lived a long time ago and my opinion at present? How can you hold something classed as scripture higher than what I write now purely based on the fact that it's what you believe in?

Besides, I don't have any religious scripture at hand but I do recommend you read through http://www.skepticsannotatedbible.com/

Wow... you can find that but you can't google "Bible" to find scripture to back up your debate... amazing... course then again its just like an atheist to miss the obvious. (Not an insult directly at you... but seriously so many atheists I hear miss the obvious, no clue why) Anyway I won't even begin to read that due to this quote in the preface:
Quote
their faith tells them they should read the Bible, but by reading the Bible they endanger their faith.

Pure ignorance...

Anyway another stupid atheist thing in attacking how the Bible came to be... so what it was put to paper by men... it doesn't mean they had control over it. Think of it like this... say a CEO tells his secretary to take a dictation. Does the note loose its meaning because a secretary wrote it to paper? No, the secretary was simply a tool to have the words put to paper in order to be spread.

So? They could still write something different, or be pretending they were writing his words when he said shit all.
When I see a decent argument. I'll agree.

I completely agree with this video. God created everything and then buried the dinosaur bones. Could it be any more simple?

But so many of them (you) just attack people's religious beliefs in the most disrespectful way possible. But I thought only crazy radical religious people did that!

Why does faith automatically warrant respect? And why do you feel that science is not deserving of equal respect as faith?

"Faith is a virtue" is something only people with faith say. A little too biased if you ask me.

Fact is you can't deny that religious people purposely distort scientific theories to make them sound ridiculous in order to deter people from believing in them. These videos are proof of it.

Funny how it doesn't happen the other way round...

Oh yeah sorry I forgot... everybody can interpret scripture how they like... Apart from people criticizing it because they always interpret it wrongly.

My mistake  :-[

It doesn't take a lot of respect to do nothing to someone. You can believe anything you want and I won't laugh at you. (spaghetti monster doesn't count)

It isn't so much as the critic is misinterpreting, it is more like a general lack of understanding and knowledge of the scripture that makes them look stupid when they find "contradictions"

Y'know, you all seemed pretty eager to dismiss this site, but doing so on the basis of one line seems a bit premature. http://www.skepticsannotatedbible.com/contra/merciful.html this makes some valid points. Wtf?

Quote from: Micah 7:18
Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy.

Quote from: 1 Samuel 15:2-3
Now go an smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not, but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.

Poor livestock. =/

Saul is a smart cookie, though.

Quote from: 15:9
But Saul and the people spared Agag, and the best of the sheep, and of the oxen, and of the fatlings, and the lambs, and all that was good, and would not utterly destroy them: but every thing that was vile and refuse, that they destroyed utterly.

Prudent, right? Instead of slaughtering a bunch of useful animals, he let them, and also let the king, Agag, live! =D

God spake:

Quote from: 15:11
["]It repenteth me that I have set up Saul to be king: for he is turned back from following me, and hath not performed my commandments.["] And it grieved Samuel; and he cried unto the LORD all night.

Oh, guess God really didn't like those animals.

Quote from: 15:29
And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent: for he is not a man, that he should repent.

Wait, what?

Quote from: 15:35
And Samuel came no more to see Saul until the day of his death: nevertheless Samuel mourned for Saul: and the LORD repented that he had made Saul king over Israel.

WTF?!
