Idea: RPG mode for soldat (this is an original one)

Hello folks!
I've just got an idea for soldat: an option to have RPG style game play. How? Let's see:
It wouldn't be another game mode like deathmatch, CTF, etc. But it would add the option of having RPG style game to the current game mods (mostly like survival mode adds that option).
So, RPG mode would be: A set of classes/skills that a person chooses before spawn. For example:
I join a CTF game, and I choose the ninja class, so I have these weapons:
* Knife, explosion grenades, smoke grenade (to hide).
And skills:
* Invisibility (for 15 secs), fast knife throwing (less delay), camouflage (adapt the body color to color of the map).

Another person chooses the sniper class, he gets these weapons:
* Knife, explosion grenades, barret.
And skills:
* More vision (able to see more when sniping), fast barret reload (less time to reload), double barret shot (get another chance of shot right now).

Skills would be more like to be used only once per spawn or only after like 30 seconds of "mana" reloading.
When you die you can choose another class. And the skills are reseted.

If it sounds confusing let me know.
Note that this would be an optional game mode, much like realistic, survival, etc.
I think it would add lots of fun if it has great classes/skills.

PS: smoke grenades are a new weapon sugestion too. :P

Great idea: Team Fortress Soldat!

Although, this would most likely be a fan script. It has, as I have seen from previous attempt to get something like this in the game, been scorned over and over as official.

However, I would be all for a server code version of this.

I remember reading the faq of soldat... mm's reply to an rpg was, ''what the hell are you''. So most likely if you convinced everyone here (which isnt likely) to make it official, i doubt MM would be up for it. Heh

This would not be RPG in the sence of level up or character interpretation or magic and that stuff.
But in the sence of classes and skills.

My suggestion: Learn server scripting and build up to this. I'm sure it would be met with open arms if you made it.

Trust me, it'll never happen. That would take a LONG time to make, and not to mention destroy Soldat's sense of arcadey feel.

Besides, MM doesn't want his game to be any more complicated. Want this? Suggest it as a Server Side script like Avarax's Hexer mod. (Even then it'll most likely never happen.)

If you want this stuff, just wait for MM's new game. It has soldier classes and all that.
For soldat, I sure hope it never happens though.

What languages are used for scripting? Is there a tutorial?
I'm a programmer and I think I could do cool servers if I knew which programming language is used.

At the risk of being burned with FlameGod from everybody, I F12 this. I think it would be neat.

The only prob would be the complexity of coding. Sounds hard.

Play Hexer... Soldat is never going to be officially an rpg so please don't bug us about it. If you really care, make your own!

I do play Hexer...nickname FearTheReaper.

I am not a programmer so it would be kinda hard for me. I just think the idea of being able to choose a skill would make it interesting.

is not a rpg is more kind of  a tactic gameplay, rpg would be like as u can rise levels 1,2,3 etc and with those leverls thing get easer to u,kind of a more life or more jet stuff like that, but it kind of like me, go for it

How would you be able to implement an effective smoke/flashbang grenade in a 2d game, though? It wouldn't work.
